I Suck at Flying in Games

Battlefield 1943 Matt Bad Flying

When it comes to getting behind the sticks of any flying vehicle in a video game, it’s a safe bet that I’ll die quickly. To put it bluntly, I suck at flying in games. I’ve been playing a lot of Battlefield 1943 lately and have been trying to get the Motorman Trophy for getting a kill in every kind of vehicle. It didn’t take me long to score a kill with the jeep and the tank, but the plane kill has been avoiding me.

I dare not try Air Superiority on Coral Sea; it’ll just be a bloodbath. Maybe if I can get a little bit better, I’ll venture my way over there. Until I can get one kill, be it by shooting, dropping bombs, or even an air raid, I’m staying on the ground.

So what does one do when they want to get better? Ask you for help, of course. Who has tips for me for getting some kills when flying a plane? Who wants to help a ninja out to score some kills?

Use both sticks to fly. Left stick makes you taw left and right right stick makes you spin and go up and down. Try to get behind your enemy and shoot. If the enemy is turning lead your shot and aim in front of him(takes practice) Bombing is a different story you gotta practice this in the tutorial.

yeah man i just downloaded it last night. a badass game, been playin for about 9 hours straight. the easiest way to get that one plane kill is to shoot down another plane. thats what i did.lol im not the best pilot either.

i just avoid dogfighting if i can, so i have no advice other than if you feel so compelled, get behind them and let it rip. your guns take longer to heat up than ground turrets, so just let it fly.

but as far as bombing, let off the throttle to slow down. get your altitude and pitch right then use the left stick and get your yaw correct. if your starting off or trying to hit a specific target, get your altitude down if the terrain permits, and once youve made your drop get the hell out. coming in low and slow makes you an excellent target for enemy rockets. i speak from experience.

as far as not crashing goes, only use the first person perspective for shooting your machine guns. the rest of the time zoom out to third. this’ll help you keep oriented so you at least know where the ground is. if you think your gonna crash, let off the throttle and go up and to the side, and get some altitude. if you know your gonna bite it, bail. parachute with x/a button if you need it.

also, its hard at first so really, even though you will be cannon fodder, air superiority is where your gonna get your skills. everything except bombing would be refined there and its gonna be where your gonna wanna start if your ego can take it.

oh and if you run head on into another plane, the one with the most health gets a personal and vehicle kill, without the suicide penalty. if your just looking for one kill, kamikaze may be your ticket.
