You Have a Better Chance of Dating Megan Fox than Getting a PS3 Price Drop

It is no surprise that Sony’s flagship console the PS3 is a beast when it comes to technology. It is much more powerful than the 360 and with built in WiFi and Blu-Ray support, it should be by far the industry leader. It’s not. Wanna know why? It costs too fucking much.  A price cut was rumored to happen at E3 or soon after, but never happened. Here is what Sony CEO Howard Stringer has to say:

I (would) lose money on every PlayStation I make — how’s that for logic.

Anyone who really wanted a PS3 already has one. It is the people who are on the fence. If you have a tight budget, as most of us do, you need to make a choice. Casual gamers would say, well, the 360 is cheaper and the games are sort of the same, I’ll buy the 360. With games like Rock Band and GH and Madden, they are so close in graphics and quality, people just are not coughing up the extra dough. Sony will have to make a decision soon because the way things seem to be going, the PS3 is going to need a change one way or another to get off the shelves.

    Ok…forgive me here. But, it’s $400…

In the amount of time the PS3 has been out, you could’ve set aside $15/mo, and you’d have a PS3…right now. It’s that simple. If you want really expensive gadgets…save for them. You’re thinking about it like it’s just a games console. And this is a point that’s actually been used against it, for awhile.

I use my PS3 daily, playing a variety of games. So, it gets it’s use there. However, I can also play Blu Ray movies on it. Yeah yeah, the PS3 can also stream Hi-def movies. But, they’re not Blu-ray quality. Those files…really are that big, and yes, it’s mainly due to lossless audio. But, for those of us who have TV’s and Soundsystems that can output that kind of sound/video. It’s worth it. Disagree, if you like…but it’s really a matter of opinion anyway. Right?

Bottom line though, I purchased my PS3 (Full bc 60g swapped with a sata2 320g internal)for the games Sony 1st party developers create. Not for some 3rd party support (I have a PC for that). For games, I will likely never see elsewhere, unless it’s an extremely poor emulation hack. (Not interested).

In my opinion, Grand Turismo 5 alone is worth the price of admission. I will get more mileage out of that game, as I did with it’s predecessor, all the way back to 1…

So how is saving 15? Even 25 a month…not feasible? If that’s a problem…then honestly, should you really be worrying about a PS3 anyway?

well said man. when i posted my other comment i didnt see yours at first. i agree anyone can save a little bit of money each week/month and have one in a few months or so. i have a ps3 and im saving for a 360 so i can play all the good games of this gen.

I love morne’s comments I see them all the time and he saves me the trouble of saying the same thing he already typed. I have made this comment before about $400 being to much? to look for another job and stop thinking about games. I have 2 ps3’s and love them I get 5-8 hours a day out of them movies and games combined. I think sony is doing a great job of bringing games that others would not to there platform. If you dont own a ps3 you are truly missing out but thats your choice. by now I think what gets people the most is they really really want one but told there self they would wait for a price drop. So really that whole price thing were talking a $50 to $100 dollar diffrence everyone I know makes about $100 or more a day cant be that bad to just do some OT or just pony up.

ohh and by a day I ment to say work day.

I have nothing to worry about with the price cut, what I’ve been leaning towards more are the pictures of the PS3 slim, which were a hoax. I’m sure there’s still going to be a PS3 slim just a matter of when it’ll be announced :o

First of all, not everyone has a high-def tv to play blu-ray on. Sony leaves a feature in(blu-ray) which I could care less about, but takes out b/c. When the ps3 came out there were no good games for it so who would want to save $15 or $25 a month for it. It just started getting good exclusives for it at the beginning of 2009.In this situation I probably would have bought a 360 by now if I were somebody else. I already own a 360 though, I am not a 360 fanboy, I see its flaws just like other people. The ps3 is just too expensive for people who don’t need or want blu-ray.

I have closely watched all the slim & price cut rumors for months and have held off buying a ps3 because of those rumors. I am starting to think that they won’t happen anytime soon.

Then I started remembering the heat issues that were in the previous ’slim’ consoles, overheating causing multiple kinds of system problems (ps1, ps2, sega genesis, sega CDX, etc…).

Now, I would prefer to get a regular monster-sized ps3, instead of a slimmer & nicer looking console that may be more prone to overheating. At least I know the big ps3s have a very high percentage of working units out-of-the-box. That’s just a fact.

Long live my huge ps3 !

I’m sick of hearing about this price drop. It would be nice for a price drop, but I don’t want to hear about it every month.

  8. chad

hahahahahahaha this makes me kinda laugh. why is it a big deal? its only 400$ im by no means rich and thats an easily attainable amount of money. fuck just save up for it if you dont have enough. lol what rubbish

  9. marcling

Heh. Anyways i need to know if you guys got my plans for world dom…er job application.

The people who want this price cut most likely aren’t working. They are relying on their mom to buy them one. I could care less about having all the little shits on Live make the transition. I hate having to sit in the lobby and mute assholes. When I play on the psn this rarely happens. So I say keep the price point. If people can’t afford the console they probably wont be buying many games, and if they do it will be used. So it is stupid for sony to drop the price in hopes that they will recover their losses on games, when the people who want it are obvious bottom feeders.

I agree with all of you guys. I bought a PS3 when it came out. The fact of the matter is that we are all gamers and will make any and all concessions to get whatever gaming stuff we need.

The difference is that the majority of people, the majority of consumers, are not hardcore gamers, and will not make concessions. They will make a choice, albeit the cheaper option of the two.

Whether we agree with Stringer or not, the PS3 is not selling as well as it should be.

I am sorry but I think I disagree with some of you. Before the Flame comes on, I like playstation, with out ps3 xbox would have no competition. We all know with out competition, no need to become better.

Now I want a PS3, why because I want anything that has to do with Tech but I do not want a PS3 for blueray because I see physical media going away. A proven point in that is the 360 will be doing streaming 1080p in Flawless format. Also I will be able to download 360 games coming this Aug straight to my hard drive.

The reason I want one is because I can do things on it that I can’t do on my 360, browse the web, install linux, honeslty just to dick around with.
I have the money to spend 400 or even 500 on the PS3 I just don’t see how the money justifys the product for me(not everyone feels the same). This is the same reason I will not purchase a Apple Computer because the money doesn’t justify the ends for me.

I know of a lot of people that want a PS3, just not for that price because they already spend a lot of time and money on the 360, and Live Content being what it is compared to PSN. Yeah I pay 50 dollars for 13 Months but it is worth it.

  13. ian

it is not too expensive, never has been. it is exactly the price it should be. said it many times on this site. just because a price cut is a good thing for folks doesn’t mean it is necessary. i’d like everything in my life to be 50% off, but it isn’t going to happen and with most stuff, like the ps3, i pay what it is worth and i am happy with that.

  14. Eric Williams

The PS3 is a powerhouse, but you better have the cash to back up your gaming habits.

  15. Chad

Ian has a great point. I love sales as much as the next guy, but there are some things that I just don’t care if they’re on sale or not. I know what they are worth and I’m happy to pay it. PS3 is definitely in that category.
