If you were even semi-conscious in the 80’s you know what Top Gun is. The best fighter plane movie ever made that features the most homoerotic game of volleyball ever played this side of Fire Island. That being said, Top Gun is an icon and there have been some great games based on it. We all remember the Nintendo version where landing the plane was almost as hard as landing a real plane. Now we get Top Gun on the iPhone, and let me tell you, it’s awesome. The game features the actual movie soundtrack. Kenny Loggins FTMFW. Highway to the Danger Zone. Check. Top Gun intro song. Check. Maverick and Iceman in the game. You bet your ass.
The game is simple to play yet difficult to master. You move the plane in and out of, you guessed it, Danger Zones, as shown above. The are either obstacles or missiles or whatever the else can hurt you. You get 8 life bars, which is great because you will slip up and the game won’t be over. Locking on is simple and if you get too close, you switch to guns. The game has 10 levels and is a blast to play. The accelerometer can be reset so you can adjust the default position of the iPhone/iPod Touch. The game is a ton of fun to play. There are medals to be won, bogeys to shoot, and a ton of missions to complete. Any fan of air combat sims needs to buy this. Any fan of Top Gun needs to buy this. If only “Playing with the Boys” was a hidden track.
I suck horribly at flying games, but I want to try this out.
I love this game. I remember when I was a kid I played it on the original Nintendo. I didn’t play much because I would beat the level and could never land the darn plane. Hopefully I can do it now on the iPhone. We’ll see; probably not.
Does the game have a volleyball scene in it? LOL!

I’m definitely going to get this game. I’m flying right into the danger zone! I’m not very good at flying games either but maybe one day I can fly with maverick
