Sony decided to drop BC from all of their models to the chagrin of gamers everywhere. Unless you had a near launch 20 GB, 60 GB, or 80 GB console, you were shit out of luck if you wanted to play God of War on your PS3. Sony has patented Emotion Engine Emulation, which is a way for PS3’s to be able to read PS2 data without the PS2 chip in place. To oversimplify things, it would allow PS2 games to be played on PS3’s without any kind of modding. There is no guarantee that this is the reason they have this patent, but it would sure make a lot of sense and a lot of people happy. I bet this will be part of the big v3.0 firmware update that’s rumored to be coming later this year.
it is a nice thing just to have if it is true but I have a BC PS3 80 gig and I have only used the BC to play katamari. When they FINALLY release a PS3 katamari, I won’t need the BC at all. ha
