You may have noticed a lack of NPD reporting here at Loot Ninja recently. We’ve decided that it’s just not worth writing about anymore. There’s a few reasons, but mainly gamers just don’t care that much. Does the fact that the Xbox 360 had a 6 percent year-over-year drop affect how you’re going to be gaming? No. Will reading about these sales numbers have you running out to buy stock? Probably not.
The other big reason is that NPD’s are becoming less and less a true representation of the real sales landscape. Hell, they don’t include Wal-Mart, the biggest retailer in North America. You can bet your ass a lot of games and systems get sold there. Also, no digital distribution is counted towards their sales figures. With this model becoming increasingly prevalent, the numbers being reported can’t be seen as a true representation of what is actually sold over the past month.
Now, don’t get me wrong, if someone crazy happens, you know we’ll be talking about it. But in typical months where it’s the same story (Nintendo rapes the competition), we feel there’s better material to discuss about actual games.

Amen to that!
