Back at GDC, I got to sit down Marc Fernandez, the Vice President of Creative from Marc Ecko Entertainment to check out Dexter. In case you don’t remember, I loved the game. At E3, I met up again with Marc and was blown away at how far the game had come in such a short time.
The graphics received a bit of an overhaul as everything looked better on screen. The texture resolutions were increased, the on screen joystick looked very polished, and the game’s HUD was now included (and it looks great). The best part about the demo I saw at E3 was the inclusion of Michael C. Hall’s voice for all of the in-game segments and cut scenes. They’re still recording more with the secondary characters, but when the game ships, it will be authentic Dexter experience.

Some of the gameplay mechanics I saw were tweaked as well, especially the stalking portions, which Fernandez equates with the game’s boss battles. Most will be timed and the AI characters will react to your movements, so you have to be stealth. The slashing mechanics for the kills depend on your chosen weapon, but aren’t overdone (you don’t want to look like a tool playing this, after all). Every bit of the gameplay looked fun. The cut scenes and conversation trees really pull you in to the story.
Dexter is still on target for around 8 hours of play time for the first episode with four episodes planned that span the entirety of the series’ first season. Pricing hasn’t been set and no release date has been anounced as of yet, but Fernandez told me mid to late summer. I tried to get a copy on my iPhone right away because it’s just that damn good, but to no avail. Mark my words, this will be one of the best gaming experiences on the iPhone when it drops this summer.

Your words have been marked! Dexter is going to rock.
