The best multiplayer game of the year, Killzone 2, received its first map pack this past week, dubbed Steel & Titanium. The two maps, Wasteland Bullet and Vekta Cruiser, offer fast frenzied action to enhance what’s already an amazing multiplayer experience. After spending a good amount of time with both maps, I can say they’re among my favorite in the game.
Vekta Cruiser (pictured above) takes place on a giant multi-level cruiser ship. The map is a bit smaller than most of the original maps, but the layout makes it my favorite of the game. Most of the action funnels towards the center of the map, where you can perch yourself on the upper levels and lob down grenades or snipe as enemies run into the area. Side battles can spill out into the upper hallways and catwalks, making it great for multiple sqads.

Wasteland Bullet (pictured above) takes place on a fast moving bullet train. Seeing the background speed past you is pretty cool, but don’t get caught up in that too long or you’ll get killed quick. This is one of the smallest maps in the game, so it provides some of the most fast-paced battles. The train is broken up into two sides with a few jumps in between and many places to take cover. Even though it’s small, you can still easily have many people in play.
Guerilla Games did an amazing job with these new maps. They look and play very well and I would recommend any regular Killzone 2 player pick these up. However, they are priced a bit more than other map packs at $5.99. If it was a bit cheaper, these maps would have received 5 Ninja Stars. Either way, they’re some of the best maps available for any game.
