In what could be the worst kept secret in gaming for 2009, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was finally confirmed to be real. The fan requested port is being developed from the Dreamcast code base with a few nice twists.
First and foremost, there will be online play based largely on the net code from Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (so you can expect both player and quarter matches). There will be HD upscaling options as well as widescreen if you don’t want to look at the original 4:3 stylings. My favorite feature is that all 56 characters will be unlocked from the start, so you don’t have to go through unlocking everyone like you’ve done in the past.
For PS3 gamers, a demo will be available on the PSN this week so you can check out a few characters in offline play. No demo has been announced for the Xbox 360 yet. The full game will be available this summer for $15 / 1200 Microsoft Points.
I’m just happy that I’ll need one less console now for fight night gaming parties. Maybe the PS3 will be the only one we need (SF4, SSF2THDR, SC4, MK2, and now MvC2).
