Insomniac just finished up announcing officially the new Resistance 2 patch and DLC. I got a chance to speak with Jake Biegel, the Senior Designer and Multiplayer Lead on the game when they finished up. We got to chat about the DLC and changes implemented in the patch.
The biggest thing Jake wanted to get across is that Insomniac is very community focused. If you weren’t aware (I wasn’t), they host Play with Insomniac Fridays where the team plays Resistance 2 online with their community. During these play dates, they’re getting all kinds of feedback on gameplay balancing, tweaks, and what the community wants. If they can deliver and it makes sense, Insomniac makes it happen.
In terms of the new patch v1.50, I asked Jake about having two players sign in to the PSN during the game. There was some confusion the past few days on the intarwebs about firmware updates being needed. Biegel cleared it up by saying a previously released firmware update included the necessary API’s to allow multiple PSN logins. I asked about more than two logins in the future and was told “if the hardware supports it, we will do our best to retrofit the feature into our game.” Jake hinted at new features coming, but quickly stopped himself as to not let out too much information.
The Aftermath Map Pack will show up as a new playlist in matchmaking only if you buy the map pack. Jake described the maps as “smaller, more intimate levels that provide frantic action.” After checking them out quickly, I have to agree.
We briefly discussed the Nocturnal Initiative, Insomniac’s open source project for providing developers with source code and documentation, but you’ll just have to wait to hear all about that

I’m excited to find out about the Friday Play Dates. That sounds awsome. I love this game.
