Three new Halo maps have been in the works for sometime and we were teased with title updates containing achievements that could not be achieved. This drove gamers nuts. Now, if you have bought the Halo Wars CE, like us, you can get cracking on the new maps. I’ll give you a brief description of each and what kind of battles you can expect.

Assembly is the second Covenant themed map in Halo 3 and is a huge Scarab factory. It is relatively small and symmetrical making it good for Team Slayer, CTF, and bomb based games. It is a living, breathing factory and if you look up, a ship is being built. Pretty sweet. Great for 2 on 2 as well.

Orbital is designed after a UNSC “elevator”. These are used for bringing shipments from the ground to ships in the atmosphere and were referred often in the Contact Harvest book. There are two platforms that look across each other with a gap in the middle. This is great for Slayer but is best for Team Swat. The scope on the battle rifles makes great use of the multiple levels of the platforms and the distance between them.

Sandbox is the little brother of the much larger Sandtrap map that we have all played in Big Team Battle. The name Sandbox is not an accident for it is being called the ultimate Forge map. It is a playground so to speak for players to dream up whatever they want while in Forge and just go all out. I played both Team Swat and Team Slayer here and they were fun. The real purpose of this map is for Forge, so don’t be too surprised to not see this in a regular rotation as the above.
Now the big question, should you buy these maps? Yes, you should. Any loyal Halo 3 player will want these for they will add to the already amazing Halo 3 experience. Do you need to rush out and buy the Halo Wars CE? No, you don’t. The maps will be here soon enough and don’t warrant an $80 purchase unless you really want Halo Wars, which is fine because it itself is a great game. The maps are awesome and another great job by Bungie.
Overall: A definite buy, but wait until they are available as a standalone purchase.

Yeah, a really can’t wait till the map pack comes out on the marketplace, its like my nipples are being twist just waiting for it to come out!
Sounds like fun, I have had the maps since I picked up Halo Wars last week Tuesday, and I have yet to pick up Halo 3 to try them out.
I’m sorry man, but I’m leaning toward ‘pay no attention to this guy’ — did you say “Halo Wars ****CE****”… combat evolved? as opposed to LE (legendary edition). Don’t get me wrong, i luv me some H1, hate me some RTS… was that a typo? Or your ’stick it to the man’ and wish we were in 2001-2002 again? (i do – ha!).
Seriously tho, I appreciate your summary.
