Rapelay: Waaay Too Far Over The Line?

rape-play-intro-screen

At first I couldn’t actually believe that a game like this existed, then I remembered just how fucked up people in Japan can be. For those of you with a confused look on your face (of which there are a few I’m sure), Rapelay is a very involved and detailed fetish-based Japanese rape simulator. The rapist, or Chikan as they are known, has been arrested by police because of  Aoi – a girl he had raped previously. As revenge, the Chikan vows to rape Aoi’s entire family. Chikan has to stalk, molest and rape Makna – the younger sister, Yuko – their mother, and finally Aoi herself.

Anyone who isn’t completely disgusted by now is a pervert beyond even myself.

Now, after all this has been completed, the real game begins – ie; it gets worse. Once all these actions have been fulfilled the player can have intercourse with his victims at any time – this is supposed to be the source of the replay value. The player can also continue on past the story mode and enter different play options such as Nekko-Kapa (Bondage), Nokai, Chikan and even goes so far as to have multiplayer options – including a Gangbang Mode. Jesus. Chikan mode has a mini-game built into it that involve subduing a victim as she tries to stop you from undressing her. During some of these modes the chance for the player to be killed does exist – but that’s hardly a saving grace now is it. As these modes are played through, the player can unlock different Talisman that represent different achievements (e.g. Fill, Anal, Expose, Swallow, Shame, Talk). The lengths the game goes through regarding fetishes also involve using Talisman to unlock different headdresses with the purpose of forcing the victim to makes certain noises during the rape. You can even impregnate your victims – which leads to a game over because you ultimately end up being thrown onto train tracks. Good friggin’ riddance.

You know everybody, I’m all for the freedom of speech and personal freedoms in general. I’m an advocate of games such as Thrill Kill that have been very controversial in the past due to overly violent content. My view is usually that of  ‘if you don’t like it, don’t play it. And leave the rest of us alone’. But don’t you think that this is well over the line? Does a game such as this really need to be made in the first place? I suppose that my biggest problem is that it feeds the fantasies of those who enjoy the idea of rape – one of the ugliest facets of a species with whom I belong to but have very little love for.

rapelay

And I’m sure that there are those who could make the same argument that I make with violent games. That it somehow blows off some steam, that doing it in a video game relives the urge to do in real life. That it’s harmless. Those are all valid points for other arguments. But you forgot one thing. You’re advocating rape. The rape of an entire family. I’m all for population control in this world. But breaking a person mentally/physically and then sending them back out into an already very broken world just to feed some self-serving, despicable urge is another level all together.

At least when people die they are out of their misery. Supposedly.

rapelay-screen

You know, I almost took the time to review this game. I almost went there. But to do so would be to validate its existence. And play it in its entirety. Two things which I’m not prepared to do. I could take the super professional stance and try to look at Rapelay objectively, pick it apart and view it as a simple programmed piece of software to be played by those who enjoy the genre. But there is no game here. Just a vile piece of trash to be shunned by those of us in our lifestyle. So instead I’ll take the more hard-nosed stance and say fuck this game, fuck those who made it, fuck those who play it. We don’t need shit like this in the world. Thanks for putting it here Illusion Games.

So what do you think gamers? Am I being too tough? Too soft? Let us know yeah?

Later.

Don’t worry BJ, this is as fucked up as it seems. And I think you’r going to soft too. Cause this is just sad to see this made into a “game”.

And what if kids see or play this game, its giving the wrong idea, and rape is totally on a whole new level than violent games.

  2. Very disturbing, to say the least.

  3. chad

this sound like a great game guys! i beg for an american release.

  4. Bob

Sigh, what an unoriginal and unprofessional article. You don’t like the game. Boo frickin’ hoo. The best part about civil rights is as long as you don’t harm anyone, you should be able to do and/or play whatever you want. I would gladly accept this game in my society for those that want to play it because I’d be happy to know that censorship wasn’t ruining my nation. I pray America has the common sense to release this with an AO rating.

    1. sadly no, america may be home of the free… but only for the p.c.

    2. @ Bob – I am all for Civil Rights but there is a line. Just like you shouldn’t make snuff films I believe this is too far. The entire point of the game is to commit a crime of unthinkable feat and then make it even worse by involving a whole family and pretty much torturing them. The game is nothing more than a sick fantasy and pretty unimaginative since you only do one thing, at least games like GTA that involve violence bring other things to the table like different game play mechanics and story lines.

      1. John

No one got hurt making the game, nor when the game was played.

  5. i played the game… well almost played it.. its very badly translated and really isnt all its
    cracked up to be..

yes, rape is wrong and disgusting, couple that with the apparently child rape portrayed
    in the game, its sickening…

but have you ever seen japanese entertainment, it is full of this stuff.. its really nothing new,
and i can actually say this is probably the most benign form ive seen coming from that island nation..

  6. EHT

You’re not being rough enough, haha. This is not a shock to me, Japan is home of weird shit and among other things, sex fetishes come true. I’ve seen many other hentai games like this and it wasn’t that appalling, I’m just use to it since I’m big on Japanese culture I suppose. Nice to read your opinions on this game though.

  7. Max

Back a long time ago, before I was born, and when you BJ was very young there were books that were thought of this way; they shouldn’t be taught in school, they shouldn’t be allowed in public libraries, etc. Today these books, The Grapes of Wrath and Uncle Toms Cabin are two examples, are classics, must reads, visionaries, books professors and teachers in schools wouldn’t think about not teaching. Now I understand that these books, my examples, don’t demonstrate rape, but in their time they were perceived the same way you are perceiving this game. I still stand on, this world is too disgusting to care about anything and that people can, regardless of your own personal ideals, do whatever they want as long as it doesn’t harm other individuals.

  8. j

so murdering and stealing is okay but raping is not, lol get ur items straight man

  9. Mr. Unite Us

Should ban the company for promoting terrorism.

Rapelay has one of the most active player communities in Japan. There are mods (google Rapelay materials) for every facet of the game from removing the censorship, translating the game to English, Spanish and German, new clothes, new hairstyles and even new voices. All developed and distributed for free by adoring fans.

Rapelay’s success in the three years since its release is something of a legend. Not only has it produced two expansions already (and even talks of a movie) but it’s even inspired a sub-genre of Rapelay copycats.

As far as the silly moral outrage surrounding the game, I’m sure Illusion (the developers) are just thrilled for the global wave of free advertising. They ALREADY MADE A RAPE SIMULATOR, did you think your disposable indignity was gonna faze them or their customers?

Having played the game, and being a huge fan of it, the most ironic thing I take away from the last couple weeks of sandy blogger vaginas is the fact that Rapelay __ISN’T__ even anywhere near as bad as BattleRaper2, a 3D fighting game where you disrobe and then rape various female characters. And THAT wasn’t quite as bad as BattleRaper1.

All three are available for purchase online.

Statistics prove that these games actually lower sexual assault rates. Japan has much fewer sexual assault cases than America. Why? Because they don’t censor things that don’t hurt people. It’s just like the American Prohibition act– banning alcohol doesn’t solve the problem, it just creates new ones and an underground trade. This underground trade would translate to higher rape rates, undoubtedly some of them would involve minors.

If you can provide a satisfying substitute that prevents bad people from committing crimes, why not? Would you really rather have people raped and left with permanent mental scars than give up our nation’s prudishness? Japan is so much more logical than us, it’s amazing.

No fucking shit Japan is far more Intellectual then Stupid fucking Americans or America in general!!!
I agree I think the main fucking reason for Japan to produce such games is because they feed their fucking “BASIC INSTINCTS.” God damn is it that pathetic to not allow your self to act on your own emotions every now and then as a human being??? Whats the difference between holding a gun to someones head in reality then holding a gun in a virtually reality? There is no difference except for one Its on a tube it’s a false perception of our own instinct ability to kill thus once we pull the trigger in virtual reality there’s no harm done.
I have learned something from watching the movie Gamer(2009) visiting virtual reality and living in virtual reality for now are 2 different things but our basic instincts can not tell the difference only our emotions can. That is our fucking connection and the reason why It is OK to let go and loosen up with OUR OWN LIFE’S every once and awhile. Besides that I think this game prevents criminals and technically there’s no harm done and it’s pleasurable why pay a prostitute 500 to 2gs for a 1 night stand when you can do it for free virtually XD there’s no hassle and saves money.

  12. [...] and they are entitled to that view, just as I don’t agree with the experiences presented in a game BJ took a look at, but you cannot deny that it is there for you to encounter for you choose so. If someone doesn’t [...]

  13. Dar-sandur

Seriously, shooting people’s head is on a totally different level. How many of us can actually wield a gun, killing just about anyone, and live without guilt? If htere is, why does a shooter in a shooting spree kill himself later? CAUSE THEY CAN’T COPE WITH THE GUILT!!!

Although Japan has fewer rape cases, how many goes unreported, or the girls becoming prostitue? America has strict laws against rape, and a very strong NGOs. Raplay potrays the lowest of fith that a human being can possibly achieve. Really really low. This games advocates sex slave, and pedophilia. Think about it. Killing people, zombies or anything else never truly made anyone a killer, cause you don’t have the true feeling when killing someone. But in Raplay, it will deteriorate the person’s mentality to a state lower than that of an animal.

    1. aSHYian

“Seriously, shooting people’s head is on a totally different level. How many of us can actually wield a gun, killing just about anyone, and live without guilt?”
To sum up how ridiculous your argument is:

None of ‘us’ can kill someone and live with the guilt, but we can all rape people without feeling any guilt because that’s “on a totally different level”

Are you saying that if the game were released, “we” would all go out and rape children? You are alone in your twisted reasoning. You would– you have no self-control and want to blame a game. Don’t use “us”.

“Although Japan has fewer rape cases, how many goes unreported, or the girls becoming prostitute?”
So let me get this straight. You’re saying that in America EVERY rape is accounted for, and EVERY rapist is prosecuted? And in America, girls NEVER become prostitutes?
Currently, in my state (and I live in AMERICA) three men are being prosecuted for forcing a 16-year-old run-away in to prostitution. Authorities say they’ve done it before, and they’re not the only ones part of this underground sex trade. So much for your perfect portrayal of America’s legal system.

The simple fact is, people are people, regardless of their nationality. If this game relieves would-be-rapists’ sexual frustration, then I say why not?

  14. ifuckyoursister

bah youre a fucking gay ,its a game ppl,be afraid when a stupid asshole do that in your country wich happens eveyday so why being so incredibly stupid about this,im gonna try it ,so fuck off pussy let a real men try the games, but maybe youre right if anyone from the us play this since theyre all fuck up theyre gonna go rape all the girls in theyr towns hahahahahahhahaa suckers

  15. Nutbuster

This game was mentioned at Angry-Gamers.net in some article about morals, and they even reviewed it.

At least they weren’t such pussies about it.

  16. yogy

    that’s fucked up

  17. Der Pervet

Your’re right. This game is evil and I honestly feel guilty for having jerked off while playing it – just as every sick pervert (=man) does.

Face it – we have all had rape phantasies every now and then. But we won’t outlive them, because be fear the consequneces. And I’m not mainly talking about the being caught and jailed, but rather the fact that you have destroyed someone’s life and are forced to live with that conscience.

Thart’s why I’m grateful that RL exists, as all of you do – hypocrites!!!!

  18. GG

    frigging moral supermen…

you can run around doing killing sprees in GTA
you can grab a gun and blow people into pieces in Fall out 3
You have access to porn sites that promotes fetishes and fantasy

    I don’t see you complaining.

and now a game about raping comes out you’re all complaining how its gonna corrupt ppl’s mind.

    hypocrites these days…

  19. DavidJCobb

As a side note to the less intelligent commenters, here…

Saying that playing rape games represses rape urges is bullshit. It’s positive reinforcement for rape — associating rape-related stimuli with pleasure, and promoting it in the process. It also has some similarities to the disproven anger management technique called “scream therapy”, in which people shout and scream to manage their anger — the therapy actually makes them more prone to outbursts.

So this game is disgusting and could possibly turn potential rapists into rapists.

    Also, Japan is fucked up.

  20. You guys are pussies

You guys are too harsh on the game. Seeing as how there are many brutally violent games out there that promotes shooting people, beating the shit out of them, or blowing them up. Are you saying that killing people is any better than what rape or slavery would be? Games like GTO are sold in the US and can be played by minors which I dont see anybody complaining about that.

“So this game is disgusting and could possibly turn potential rapists into rapists.”- quoted.
So I should see you on games that promote violence then, right. Seeing as killing games should turn potential killers into killers.

Though I think putting this review is one the dumbest things you can possibly do. Think about the children that could be surfing the web that could possibly find this page or another site that is reviewing this game. You just made it a hell of a lot easier for that kid to get interested and try this game out because of you arrogant view of the game. I hope you’re happy.

  21. Will Smith

It’s a video game. Video games are fantasy. If you’re getting angry over the content of artistic fantasy, regardless of what it is, then you officially need something more important to occupy your thoughts with.

Saying that playing a game like Rapelay “caters to the fantasies of sick rapists” is like saying that GTA caters to people with fantasies of murdering prostitutes. It’s FANTASY. Not REALITY. People being offended and outraged over the content of artistic expression has been the hindrance of artists for centuries.

Also, if you ever bothered to play the game rather than just speaking about what you read in a synopsis, you’d see that the game actually has very little to do with rape. The game is mostly about touching and feeling the girls as a porn simulator. Anyone who plays the game expecting to see gratuitous violence and volatile explicity will disappointed.

Try opening your mind a bit to expression and stop being outraged by things you read on the internet.

  22. what a discusting concept, however the japs are evil enough to make it realistic and have all the required experience, just wiki the rape of nanking , raped 100,000 women in little over a month.
