According to Microsoft’s support site, starting Monday, if your original Xbox is out of warranty, you’re shit out of luck. They’re no longer offering service for the console.
On March 2, 2009, service repairs for Original Xbox video game systems for which the Warranty has expired will no longer be available. Any other technical support, documents, and content, however, will continue to be available to all our customers. Although Microsoft is ending repair services for the Original Xbox, an upgrade program and support will be maintained for Original Xbox consoles that are still under Warranty.
How many people actually have an original Xbox under warranty anyway? Considering the short warranty period, you would have needed to buy one fairly recently. Who’s still buying this thing?

I actually still buy original xbox’s game for my original xbox actually. One I had an xbox 360 I was displeased out it breaks and the console is well a pile of $hit. Luckily for this generation I own a ps3 and I love it because it runs and plays games reliably. Though original xbox will still have my best intrest even though its currently dead and it’s still unkown if live works on it
Oh man!!!!!……. I had my original xbox set aside waiting for my nephew to be old enough to not just play it, but appreciate ‘what’ he was playing on. We talked about it on the phone the other night and I felt like he was ready. I pulled the old thing from the back of the closet and… it’s not working. I guess I (AND my nephew) really are SOL… that sucks.
