When the PS2 first hit store shelves, the first game I bought was Ready 2 Rumble 2. I played the shit out of that game and loved every minute of it. When I heard that Atari was bringing the series to the Wii, my pants got a little tingly. Yeah, that’s right, I said it.
We spent a good deal of time with the game at NY Comic Con this past week and I got to whoop Al’s ass in the ring. The controls were very fluid as you punched with the Nunchuk and Wii Remote, with the ability to use the various buttons to act as modifiers to allow you to throw body punches, hooks, and uppercuts. Build up your “RUMBLE” meter and press the A button to unleash the fury of your Rumble Gloves. During this time, your punches are more powerful and you can easily knock your opponent out or even blow him out of the arena. Al had me knocked down twice in one round, but unleashing my Rumble Gloves proved I was the better boxer. Sucker.

Ready 2 Rumble Revolution is very fast paced, cartoonish, and humorous, as expected. Like previous games, there will be unlockable characters rewarded for playing through the game, although Atari couldn’t speak to who would be included at the time. No online multiplayer either.
I am a bit concerned with the gameplay as it’s mostly flailing your arms around wildly to see who can knock their opponent out first. From what we saw, it doesn’t matter how much skill you have; a four year old who’s never touched a controller could probably beat a professional gamer half of the time. I’m sure in single player, this has less of an effect, but when playing with friends, it’s a toss up who will win.
Regardless, the game is still a hell of a lot of fun. It will be interesting to see when this ships around the same time as Punch Out, which will get the better review scores. I’m a fan either way, so you can bet I’ll be getting this one.

I thought the original was fun. Which consoles will we see this on?
Only on the Wii
