After yesterday’s PSP firmware update, the PS3 gets one today bringing the system to v2.60. Did Sony introduce some new features? You bet! Will you care even the slightest about them? Not a chance! Are you required to get this update to connect to the PSN? Yup. So go ahead, spend about 10-15 minutes downloading and installing this update.
With v2.60, Sony has introduced a Photo Gallery service. While it’s impressive that you can sort on so many levels, including average age of the people in the photo and number of smiles, it’s still something that won’t get touched by the majority of PS3 gamers. Hell, I don’t even have any photos on my PS3 other than the wallpaper I made. In an even more useless note, you can now browse the PlayStation Store without having to signup for the PSN. Again, something that just isn’t going to make a difference to hardly anyone other there.
Hopefully Sony can drop some decent updates next time, like having Trophy information sync automatically and speed up Trophy comparisons (they’re slower than hell, in case you weren’t aware). Maybe some cross-game invites too, who knows.
You must be on a dial up, only then it can take 10-15 minutes to download, i can down load 1-2 GB demos from PSN in less than 15 mintes

I do have photos on mine so I shall be interested in this update.
Takes me that long to download them. Last time I checked I had around a 3mbps connection… as long as it doesn’t lag with games online I could careless
What is the “Cross Game Invite” That people ask for. If I really want to bug someone else to play the game I am playing, I’ll just send them a message via the In Game XMB.
I guess it would put them into the lobby that I am in and stuff but this task can be facilitates in a simple message via the in game XMB.
Guys – maybe you are having a lousy day so I’ll tone down the WTF is your problem, but … if you look into the firmware update you’ll find that it contains the improvements for the trophies that so many people have such a huge problem waiting the 7.5 seconds that it takes to sync and or compare to your friends. Funny how you decided to have quite a slant on this update so much so that in the last paragraph you complain about a feature that should be included and IS. You also don’t mention how you can now access XMB functions in game without having to quit what you are playing.
Calm down – go have a coffee and post an update about how there are some usefull items included in this latest firmware update and Thank you Sony for looking out for us. I’m sure you’ll still end on the “yah but I still can’t cross game invite so … blah, blah blah. Be patient – they will come.
