Payback for the iPhone to Arrive January 15th [UPDATED]

UPDATE: It seems that upon the initial release of Payback there was a major bug found in the first mission of the game.  The bug wasn’t visible during testing and only became apparent upon the games release.  The developer’s decided it would be in everyone’s best interest to pull the game from the App Store and release it when the bug has been fixed.  The timetable isn’t set in stone but according to our sources Payback should be back and better than ever in about 2 weeks.  We will keep you posted.

The original version of Payback was released for the Amiga in 2001.  Several iterations followed and in 2006 the game was overhauled to play on the GP2X handheld.  This “GTA clone” is now headed for the iPhone on January 15th with brand new controls to utilize the iPhone’s unique capabilities.

At this time the developers don’t have a gameplay video of the iPhone version of the game but we have included a bunch of screenshots for your viewing pleasure instead.  As you can see from the screenshots, some of the controls are located on the screen but the vehicles are all controlled by the accelerometer.  Fans of the original top-down GTA might want to take a close look at Payback, it just might be what you have been looking for.
