We know it’s coming eventually, it’s really just a matter of how soon and who it will be that does it. We are privileged every so often to see a 3D movie, and soon 3D commercials on television. All you need is to pick up those goofy 3D glasses and BAM, 3D (maybe it’s a bit more technical than that but you see what I mean). With the next generation-super-systems must come the next generation of graphics, controls, games, genres, and anything else that has been created or improved throughout the course of video game history, and I think 3D graphics is definitely a way they can and will go.
From an article about Sony’s CES keynote:
“When it came to the idea of 3D gaming, Sony was implicit but never explicit. During his keynote, Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer showed attendees a still from Gran Turismo 5, rendered in 3D. “You’ve never seen the game like that,” he claimed.”
So it seems Sony is trying to break into, or create, this new generation of gaming. NVIDIA has also released 3D glasses that can bring your video games to 3D life. All of this is speculation, but it’s obvious the video game world is going to move in specific directions, and 3D gaming, as well as possibly virtual reality gaming, is definitely, more than likely, on their plate of things they are going to try. So which system, or company will be able to change the gaming community this time? Who knows, but we can always speculate.
We have seen the Wii and it’s invention of new controls and interesting family fun games, so maybe Nintendo will attempt to involve 3D graphics with their interactive control scheme. But, honestly, Nintendo needs to create a better overall system with the next generation Wii (I know we always say what the Wii does wrong but, lets face it, if we want 3D Wii, it needs to become more solid). The Wii needs to be able to store more information, like the Xbox 360 and PS3, in order to get better graphics quality. But, come on, how much fun would it be to play Tiger Woods or Zelda in 3D?
Microsoft and the next generation Xbox could possibly bring in 3D graphics. It already has a solid state and hard drive space available, which would more than likely be needed for 3D graphics. However, something that I think the next generation Xbox needs is a Blu-Ray player, because the discs will more than likely need to hold more data in order to attain better graphics. But a first person shooter in 3D, or Madden football, or Need For Speed would be ridiculous in 3D, wouldn’t they?
The company that I believe will have the most chance to do 3D graphics is Sony and the next generation PlayStation. Why you may ask? Well they already strive as far as they can to bring the highest quality graphics possible; they already have a standard Blu-ray Player built in so they don’t have to focus on incorporating that for larger disc sizes; they seem to want to honestly push the limit when it comes to video game graphics and graphics innovation; they have so much expandability when it comes to hard drives, hard drive space, software and hardware; they really do not limit the imagination or wants of those who own the system like Microsoft seems to do. Furthermore, that have given us hope of 3D gaming, which is more than I can say for the other two.

I will place a bet that within 4 years we will be playing video games in 3D, maybe with the goofy green and red glasses we use today, but maybe like those awesome looking NVIDIA glasses (personally, if I can, I’ll stick with the old school glasses because they’re pimpin’). I cannot say for sure what company, whether in existence now or not, will create the software hardware combination, and which gaming company will have the balls to attempt such a giant step, but they will, and I’m sure they are already working on it now as we see Sony is, but secretly. We know that companies are working on virtual reality games (training tutorials for driving), and I’m sure in the near future you will see advancements in graphics quality and the beginnings of attempts for a 3 dimensional gaming experience. Who knows, maybe Nintendo is going to come out with a new 3D Wii, because they always seem to do things no one sees coming.

Ever heard of Trackmania? Enough said.
As long as I don’t have to wear some huge helmet, I think 3D gaming is going to be cool.
wearing a helmet might be awesome though
If it adds some value to gameplay then sure. I’m not interested in use of 3D for gimmicks.
This company to be able to deliver 3D movies on an XBOX 360 NOW…
