Neversoft Skips on Tony Hawk Series

Neversoft president Joel Jewett might look like he came out of the Civil War era with his grand ol’ mustache, but this man is far cooler than Ulysses S. Grant. Having spent his teenage years skateboarding and listening to rock ‘n’ roll music in the 70’s (which is the year both, by the way, became mainstream), Jewett is better known for developing the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise and the latest Guitar Hero games.

Now concentrating on the Guitar Hero franchise, Neversoft has moved away from the Tony Hawk series. Speaking to the Great Falls Tribune, Jewett stated,

It’s probably best for the franchise…It’s time for someone else to add fresh ideas to it.

With Guitar Hero’s financial success, I’m not surprised that Neversoft dropped the Tony Hawk series (no offense, Tony). Guitar Hero has generated more than $1 billion in sales in the last couple of years, while the Tony Hawk series has been… well, you already know. Not a hard decision here at all.

Although the next Tony Hawk title is still under wraps, it’s being said that the game will ship with a dedicated skateboard peripheral, and titled Tony Hawk’s Adrenaline. It is rumored that start-up developer Robomodo is working on the game after signing with Activision to work on one of the publisher’s big franchises.

Although I believe that the title sounds more like an energy drink, I’m actually looking forward for the next installment of Tony Hawk’s skateboard simulator. Let’s give Robomodo the benefit of the doubt and believe they’ll follow in the steps of Jewett in creating a masterpiece. Because if they don’t, I’ll be sending envelopes of itching powder to their offices.

  1. While Neversoft did a great job, they’ve got a lot on their plate with the Guitar Hero stuff. Hopefully Robomodo or whoever takes over brings it back in full force. I’d probably get the next Tony Hawk game for Wii to use the balance board.
