2008 Game of the Year – Wii

It’s a new week, so how about we start getting to the big consoles? We’ll start off with the biggest seller, Nintendo’s Wii. Having a record breaking year in sales, again, the Wii didn’t have the stellar software lineup of its competition. There were some gems in there, however.

Rounding out the competition is Boom Blox from EA. Having the hand of Steven Speilberg in your game can never hurt and Boom Blox was a critical success, even though it didn’t sell as well as expected. The Jenga-style puzzle game made perfect use of the Wii Remote motion sensing and is a terrific title to pull out for parties.

Another great party game is our second place title, Mario Kart from Nintendo. Sure, the series has been around forever, but the crisp graphics and online play make this one a winner. With various tournaments from Nintendo released periodically, Mario Kart has plenty of legs.

This was the only unanimous first place winner of our voting. Loot Ninja’s 2008 Game of the Year for the Wii is Super Smash Bros. Brawl from Nintendo. Smash Bros. has been a cult favorite for its fast-paced beat-em-style and Nintendo brought the goods with Brawl. A terrific single player story mode with solid online play are more than enough reason that Super Smash Bros. Brawl needs to part of your Wii library. Congratulations, Nintendo!

Tomorrow, it’s on to the PS3. Stay tuned!
