It looks as if Apple is starting to let developers get away with a little more these days.  The Adult Swim branded Amateur Surgeon has hit the App Store recently and looks to be the first age restricted game available at the store.  The question is, what took so long?

Amateur Surgeon is a cartoon style game where you operate on patients with various tools.  The game is a tad gory and has extremely raw humor so it’s understandable how it has received such a rating.  Here is the warning that Apple has tagged the game with:

You must be 17 years old to purchase this game.
Titles in this category may also contain frequent and intense offensive language; frequent and intense cartoon, fantasy or realistic violence; and frequency and intense mature, horror, and suggestive themes; plus, sexual content, nudity, alcohol, tobacco, and drugs which may not be suitable for children under the age of 17.

At least Apple is allowing developers to let their creative juices flow.  Maybe they are taking this gaming platform thing seriously.

Amateur Surgeon is already available as a free flash based game on Adult Swim’s website.  The game costs $4.99 at the App Store.  That’s the price you pay to play games on the go.
