2008 Game of the Year – Mobile Games

It’s that time of year again. Loot Ninja is bringing you our picks for 2008’s Game of the Year. We’re breaking it down into various categories leading up to the overall Game of the Year pick coming soon. Check back every day for something new.

Today we’re kicking things off with our picks for best Mobile game of 2008. Mainly, this category is iPhone/iPod Touch gaming. Once the App Store came about, the mobile gaming scene burst open with developers taking a crack at Apple’s little wonders. Who did the best?

Coming in at number 3 is de Blob from THQ. One of the earliest and best games on the iPhone/iPod Touch, de Blob showed developers how to really use the accelorometer to the fullest extent. That, and fighting off the evil INKT corporation was a grand olde time.

Taking the runner up spot is Enigmo from Pangea Software. The once Mac OSX game ported to the iPhone/iPod Touch sports some of the best 3D puzzle action you’ll see on a handheld device.

That brings up to our winner for Game of the Year 2008 for Mobile Games: Fieldrunners from Subatomic Studios. Not only is Fieldrunners the best tower defense game we played on a mobile platform, it’s one of the best overall. Great job, Subatomic Studios and congratulations!

Stay tuned tomorrow when we bring you our picks for PC Game of the Year!

yeah, this game rules. if I wasn’t so addicted to tower defense games across the board, I might dispute this claim since there are a few awesome games I play on my phone, but as it stands, this is my #1 as well.
