Xbox Outsells PS3 3-to-1 on Black Friday

Microsoft sent out a press release yesterday that the Xbox 360 outsold it’s competition (PS3) on Black Friday.

“Retailers reported Xbox 360 console sales over the Black Friday weekend were on pace to beat previous years, outselling the PlayStation 3 by a three-to-one ratio and estimating a 25 percent increase from Xbox 360 Black Friday sales figures from 2007.”

In an interview on Fox earlier today, Shane Kim believes that the New Xbox Experience and Xbox Live can expand to a broader market, outside of core gamers.  He goes further to talk about their extensive gaming library of over a thousand titles, their new partnership with Netflix, and states, “there has never been a better time to own an Xbox 360.”

I think, when it comes down to it, obviously the PS3 and Xbox 360 blow away the Wii in game titles, online experience and overal quality, but does the Xbox 360 really beat PS3 in overall quality?  Maybe, maybe not, but one thing that is obvious, and is evident from the immense sales of 360’s, is that the price really effects a console’s sales.  And in my opinion, the Xbox 360 does offer more than the Ps3 in terms of the overall experiance from the console itself, and I also believe the 360 has more room to expand, right now, than the Playstation 3.

How does the Xbox have more room to expand?

From my reading, the Xbox is reaching the limits of the hardware with games like GoW2 and it certainly has reached the max capacity of DVD. From a hardware perspective the Xbox has very little room to expand from here. If you are referring to software then both have limitless expandability because you can do anything with software.

I think the xbox has a lot of room to expand hardware-wise more than the PS3 because the PS3 is a superior machine. Wifi included and blu-ray are undeniably better than not having those things. Thus, xbox has much room to expand. The fact that xbox has the superior game library is undeniable as well, thus the 2-1 sales lead. I bought a PS3 because my primary interest was blu-ray movies. If I wanted a gaming console for the sake of gaming, the xbox is the obvious choice and consumers know that.

Yea I like the 360 a lot more than the PS3 (I don’t own a PS3 :) )but when you say the 360 has more room to expand it comes off kind of fanboyish.

Xbox 360 outsold PS3 because it’s, say it with me, CHEAPER. NXB is a waste of a download. That’s also why the Wii is still the console everyone wants, because lord knows they have few games to keep my interests.

As for room for expansion, I don’t know. Sure, Microsoft can update the hardware, but that only helps new adopters. Sony’s firmware upgrades help all PS3 owners, without needing to buy new hardware. Room for expansion reminds me of how easy and cheap it was to swap out my 60 gig PS3 HDD with a 320 gig, as opposed to buying that way-overpriced 360 120 gig HDD..
