WoW Faces Too Many Death Knights

For many, the arrival of the new Wrath of the Lich King expansion represented brand new content, mobs, areas and endless possibilities for those that had been sitting at level 70 for some time. It also presented a brand new class of characters for those to try their hand at and change up the pace, the new Death Knight. The Death Knight is a hybrid character that can best be described as an undead warrior that post WoTLK can now be started at level 55 and be leveled fairly quickly.

I decided to try my hand at this new class of characters and was pleasantly surprised at the change of pace from my main character, a hunter, but I quickly realized a few things:

First off, it is nice to start at level 55 since this gets all that early grinding out of the way and makes you eligible for end game stuff very quickly and also allows you to learn talents very quickly. One problem is that the first area that is instanced does not last very long and learning to use the new Death Knight ends in about three levels. Once you are done with the initial quests, you are set out into the world of Outland. Being in Outland again is not that fun for me personally as I just leveled my Hunter after resting him for a year, so this is a bit repetitive and I also could have used some more time to figure out using this new character a bit more.

The second and biggest problem is that there are too many Death Knights out in the world right now. If you are rolling a Death Knight, it is very hard to find a group to run instances with since there are about twice as many Death Knights on the servers than any other class right now. Aside from problems grouping for instances, there are also some quests where you need a group and these are also hard to find other classes to help with, especially healers. With such a high abundance of Death Knights in the realms, it will be interesting to see how many are carried out to level 80 and used for end game runs or are they just a novelty for those that have grown bored of their main toons? Right now it is not uncommon to run around a town and see twice as many Death Knights as any other class in the game, this goes for both Horde and Allliance.

Also, some people I have spoken to do not think kindly about the new class of characters and refer to them as a Noob class. I guess the reasoning for this is because you start out at level 55 and some players don’t really learn how to use them correctly. I think that all these players are using the Death Knight now because it is new, same as a lot of people that were using Horde characters made a Paladin and Alliance made a Shaman after Burning Crusade was released. I think labeling the whole class as a Noob class is foolish and people need to relax and have fun with this game.

our raiding death knight is #1 dps in our 10 mans at the moment. He is definitely no noob with that class ha. He also beat me to lvl 80 by about 5 days.

Such wonderful nerd talk! Rock on!

Such an unbalanced class. WOW is in danger of tipping over. What Ian just said in the first comment is what this unbalance is all about. There’s no way you can “be no noob” with a class that is less than a month old. Fact is, a Death Knight is shit easy to play because it’s freaking overpowered – and everyone knows it, even the paladins can’t shut up about it.

Death Knight – serving death to WOW as a game since late 2008.

Stewspit doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

The reason Death Knights are overpowered are because guess what? They’re a HERO CLASS. You think there’s no reason Blizzard named them that? They’re SUPPOSED to be stronger than normal classes, and also why you can only have ONE per server, per account.

I just laugh at everyone rolling Death Knights and levelling them, as when the next Hero Class comes out, they’ll be rather stuck with what they have, seeing as you can only have one Hero Class. Oops!

I think inbalance will be an issue. There are reason that many different classes exist, etc. They provide balance. In the end if the WoW world is full of DKs, who will open the boxes? Who will heal in times when the DK just cant do that and fight? Who will stealth in and control groups, etc. Right now everyone is having fun with a new class, but there is nothing more boring than a room full of 50 DKs in the end. I am going to make a DK but I am going to work twice at hard to move my palli and other toons to 80 and gear them out. PS: My rogue is going to start charging like 100 gold to open boxes cause you cant find a rogue anywhere :-)

BraveHearth, you are the epitome of stupid. YOU are the one that has no idea wtf he’s talking about, and accuse others of it. Blizzard IS ON THE RECORD stating that hero classes are only that because they start at 55, NOT that they should be stronger than ANY other class.

Do some research before you run your arrogant mouth.

Hey BraveHearth, DK’s become balanced around 75-80, moron. And it’s one per server, not per account. Do your fucking research.

I don’t buy the comment that DKs are a noob class because you start at 55. I’ve grouped with people who leveled their toon from 1-80 and still don’t know how to play their class. And I agree with Z, from my own death knight, I felt OP in Outlands, probably because the gear you earn is good enough to carry you through most of the zones there. Now at 80, I feel my DK is balanced, and I’m enjoying the hell out of tanking. The class isn’t ez-mode to play, and that’s what I like about it. That, and having my own pet zombie.

    Brains, anyone?

Wow people, such hostility. We all need to remember this is just a game that is meant to have fun. When you start swearing at people about being a little off on there information for the game I think it is YOU who needs to take a step back and realize this is still a Game.

  10. @ Dk – agreed, I am also interested why people label certain classes as noob classes? Each class has a role in the game.
