Sony is the Greenest of the Big Three Console Makers

According to Greenpeace International Sony is the greenest company of the big three console makers, but how do the other two compare?  The system is based on a 45 point scale where companies are scored on various types of environment issues such as chemicals used in manufacturing to attitudes on waste management.  Each category is scored from 0-3, the higher the score, the greener you are.

Sony was by far number one with a score of 24/45.  Microsoft came in second with a score of 15/45.  According to Greenpeace, Microsoft has been working hard on improving their scores.  They only recently created a team to manage their environmental impact.

Nintendo on the other hand scored an awful 4/45.  They have actually gotten worse since 2007 when they ramped up production on the Wii.  Greenpeace had this to say about Nintendo’s efforts,

“We’re in continuous dialogue with all the companies we speak to, apart from Nintendo. I’ve never been able to get an answer from them aside from a couple of marketing people in the UK who have been trying to forward the messages to global headquarters in Japan, but we get no response from Nintendo. The company has an incredibly poor standard of communication regarding this issue.”

So if you are in the market this year for a brand new console and are worried about your carbon footprint, don’t buy a Wii, at least according to Greenpeace International.  Just let me remind you these numbers don’t take console power consumption into consideration which would definitely turn the tides for Nintendo.

Greenpeace are just a bunch of jerk offs, imo. Remember the video ad they made using each of the companies’ mascot (Kratos, Master Chief, and Mario)? Warning us about the toxic chemicals in our consoles, so we wouldn’t eat it? Who would’ve known there were toxic chemicals in the consoles!
The only reason they’re having trouble contacting Nintendo is because Greenpeace is a joke run by dirty hippies.

Good on you, Sony, but still a long way to go (24/45)!
