Mainstream Media Picks Up Trism Story

Stop me if you heard this one before.  CNN had recently published an article about Trism developer Steve Demeter and his new found success on the App Store.  It is rare for any mainstream media types to report on news like this so we figured it is of importance, especially after the announced success of that other App Store developer making big bucks.

The story goes a little something like this.  Steve was a former ATM software designer who decided to make a game for the iPhone, the jailbreak kind, not the iPhone 3G.  He of course received no monetary compensation for it at the time but when the App Store was announced he was ready to make some hard earned cash.  Trism is simple, with a clean presentation and puzzle loving gamers gobbled it up.  He ended up earning over $250,000 in two months from this single game at the App Store and was able to quit his day job to develop for real this time.

Now CNN failed to mention that he previously had originally made the game for previous generation iPhones, making it sound like Apple had helped him in some way.

A former ATM software designer for a large bank, Demeter created “Trism” in his spare time and pitched it to Apple last spring. The company made the game available for download with the July launch of its App Store, an online provider of applications for its iPods and iPhones.

Either way, who cares if CNN didn’t exactly get the story right.  The point is that mainstream media has latched onto the success of the App Store so watch out, we might see a sudden influx of awful games and people quitting there jobs to start gaming companies.  Wait, hasn’t that already happened?
