Gears of War 2 Rank Breakdown

Since the launch of Gears of War 2 players have been wondering how in the world the ranking system works.   Thanks to the Gears of War Community Blog there is no need to wonder any longer, they now have a detailed explanation on how the system works.

Basically, the more matches you win the higher your rank goes.  It is based on Trueskill where the system tries to predict who is supposed to win or lose the match.  If your team was predicted to lose the match and your team miraculously wins, you gain more points than normal and vice versa.  In the beginning your rank will fluctuate until the system has figured out where you truly belong.  The system is based on how good you are, not how many matches you have played so eventually your rank should plateau.  Now you can rest assured the person that has played 2,000+ matches already isn’t necessarily better than you are, they just don’t have a life.

With the ranking system finally figured out along with the gearsofwar.com multiplayer information, you should be armed with enough statistics to finally prove you are better than everyone else on your friends list.

  1. I’ve had so many conversations about the rankings in pregame lobbies. Good to finally know the deal.
