You might want to fire up that copy of Gears of War one more time before Friday. There are a couple of achievements you need to unlock some cool multiplayer skins for the sequel. Specifically, you’ll want to complete Act 1 on any difficulty, collect 1/3 or more of the COG tags, and beat the game on Insane (yeah, that’ll happen quickly). Check out all the collectibles you can snag:
- Insane Difficulty – Complete the game in any difficulty
- Character: Dizzy Wallin – Complete Act 1 on any difficulty. This is a Multiplayer Character
- Character: Kantus – A Locust monk. Complete Act 2 on any difficulty. This is a Multiplayer Character
- Character: Tai Kaliso – Complete Act 3 in any difficulty. This is a Multiplayer Character.
- Character: Flame Grenadier – Complete Act 4 in any difficulty. This is a Multiplayer Character.
- Character: Skorge – Leader of Kantus Monks. Complete Act 5 in any difficulty. This is a Multiplayer Character.
- Character: Anthony Carmine – Complete any of the Act 1 Achievements from Gears of War 1.
- Character: RAAM – Locust Army Leader in GoW1. Unlock “A Dish Best Served Cold” achievement from Gears of War 1.
- Character: Lt. Minh Young Kim – Former Delta Squad Leader. Unlock “Time to Remember” achievement from Gears of War 1.
Good stuff here. It’s nice to see Epic offering some multiplayer unlocks for getting through the game, similar to the Halo 3 armor unlocks. I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of these Friday night when we team up for Gears 2 like whoa. Yes, I said like whoa.
I like the linked achievements. Luckily I think I have them all except for the insane one.
you are wrong the INSANE unlockable is available after you beat GOW 2 on insane not GOW1
to get insane just beat GOW 2 one time

@Justin – I have a silly question. Have you logged in to live or are you playing it offline with a silver account? I am not sure if that matters at all but as far as I know achievements are linked to your gamertag and not save game data so I doubt that a game save has anything to do with it. Not saying anyone has implied that. Maybe something to do with your account is wonky. Just an idea.

@Radish – Yes, it seems to be the case. Once you connect to Xbox Live and hit the title screen your characters should unlock. Kind of silly.

Ive unlocked all the achievements i need for the characters for multiplayer but for some reason it hasnt transferred and i cant play as them. Does anyonw no why this is do i need live or somet??
Once again, being that no one apparently reads through the comment section completely [so, why am I doing this...?], the only way to unlock Anthony Carmine, General RAAM, and/or Lt. Minh Young Kim is to link your gamertag to Xbox Live; simply unlocking those Gears of War (1) achievements on your Xbox 360’s hard drive is not enough. Yes, I agree that it is a bit retarded for those without an internet connection [some of us have to pay rent for an apartment and don't have the extra $100 a month for cable, dammit], but it’s just another way that Epic is pushing all of us gamers to try the online multiplayer [i.e. Party Like It's 1999, Around the World, etc. achievements].
Actually I got the around the world achievement and I’m working towards party like it’s 1999 through splitscreen multiplayer. The only ones you need live for are the public achievements, and there’s only like 4 or 5 of ‘em.

i feel in the years surrounding the gears games being developed and released a young man has forgotton what it was like to play with a toy gun or even a bag of plastic soldiers. Young men have lost their connection with reality and instead found connection within an online world, which i may add breeds greed and racism. I find alot of the young men who go to this online place have no sensee of identity and basic moral values and use words like ‘retard’ loosely. It is upsetting as its a real show of the mentaltly of todays youth, in heinsight i think that the parents are just giving the brats the tools to keep them quite rather than procreate in life. I remember the days when i’d sit in my room which i shared with my 2 brothers and listen to the record player we shared and i’d whale the lyrics like a young elk who had just been flesh wounded with a hunters riffle! the point is as economics rise in societies bid to be bigger and better where are the young boys men to be to carry the tools into the next generation….May my words echo with you in eternity friends who have cared to fill their empty cup with my knowledge…

So, I know that ITS NECESSARY to login on Xbox live with my Gamertag profile TO GET THE SPECIAL CHARACTERS…….so…………..as i dont have an account and either internet conection…………..and also i dont have a Hard Drive disc (i got a memory card)……….Can i just simply go to a public gameroom, pay some money to play online ,plug my memory card and login in xbox live to play GOW 2, and finally i will unlock tha characters??? does it makes sense??
and the most important thing: When i plug again my memory card on MY xbox 360 console, Will i haVe the characters available on MY profile??

to get A. Carmine u need to Get 1 of the acheviments from act 1 of gears of war 1 any mode and put on gears of war 2 and connect to xbox live and after u press start on gears of war 2 it should say on the bottom left corner someting about unlocked and for ramm u need to beat him on hardcore or insane on gears of war 1 and do the same thing and connect to xbox live and play gears of war 2. hopefully it helps
