Microsoft Game Studios has announced that the much anticipated Halo Wars from soon defunct Ensemble Studios will be arriving at retailers sometime in February 2009. There will be both a standard and limited collector’s edition through participating retailers. The most exciting part of this news is what is included in the collector’s edition:
- Three New “Halo 3” Multiplayer Maps – Be one of the first to experience the Mythic Map Pack from Bungie which includes three new maps, “Assembly,” “Orbital” and “Sandbox”
- Halo Wars: Genesis – a beautiful graphic novel by Phil Noto, Graeme Devine and Eric Nylund chronicling the first military campaign against the Covenant. The novel centers around the Spirit of Fire on a mission to discover why the Covenant are so interested in the world of Harvest
- Unique In-game Vehicle – “Honor Guard” Wraith
- Six Leader Cards – Leaders possess elite skills which can turn the tides of battle
- Spirit of Fire Patch – Start the journey as an official Spirit of Fire crew member
- As an added bonus, fans eager for their chance to battle the Covenant will be able to pre-order “Halo Wars” and receive a pre-order card to download a special in-game Warthog vehicle with flame decals from select participating retailers.
The standard edition will retail for $59.99 while the collector’s edition will be $79.99. I know what you are thinking about the collector’s edition pricing but don’t forget you get the Mythic Map Pack, a $10 value. I just can’t contain my excitement, I am going to run out and pre-order myself a collector’s edition immediately.

Not a huge RTS fan, especially on consoles, but I’ve been very intrigued by this game. Still waiting to get some solid hands-on time before I make any kind of decision. Although the LE contents are very sweet.
@Matt Banks – Hells yeah the LE contents look sweet. I have been waiting for this game for so long. Like you said, the RTS genre hasn’t been represented well with any console yet and this is it’s time to shine! I have loved RTS games since Bungie’s greatest game ever made, Myth 2. I seriously can not wait a second longer, give it to me!
