The Witcher for the PC is one of those games that reminds you of a brand new BMW, but covered in some dirt. Beneath the surface of the imperfection is a really great game with a compelling story and hundreds of hours of gameplay. The game was that good where you played it despite the obvious flaws, which there were numerous. So what did the guys from Atari do? They fixed almost all the issues and released an updated title that gamers desperately wanted and deserved.
The in-game story has a simple premise but is still very deep and engrossing. You play as Geralt of Rivia, a mercenary called a Witcher who combs the countryside looking for monsters to best and money to be made. He has the ability to wield huge weapons which can be strung into combos and has the ability to cast spells if he so desires. There is a lot the character can do as far as combat and this keeps the gameplay fresh instead of your basic hack and slash with weak powers that drain more energy than they do damage. What has been updated here is the graphics and character models. The old version looked something like a glorified cartoon, but now has been polished and reveals great detail and artistry.

One of the biggest changes you will notice in the Enhanced Version is the changes in the presentation of the main story arc. This is an adult themed canon, which is a nice change of pace to blander adventures. You will find yourself working with criminals such as rapists and murderers and foul language is prevalent everywhere. The dialogue has been re-recorded in many places for the simple reason of making more sense. Since the story was written in Polish, simple translation is not always the best method. Dialogue makes more sense this time around and an RPG has to have sensical conversation because much of the game is spent listening to others.
The Enhanced Version does have its drawbacks. The game has been known to crash at startup when it conflicts with certain audio drivers. Although not epidemic, it has affected enough users to take their cause to the forums for a remedy. There are 2 new albeit short campaigns added to the main quest, but do seem like add-ons in that being they are not all that gratifying.
All that being said, the developers did gamers a great service with this version of the game. Huge bugs were fixed, the game is more polished, dialogue has been improved, and the game feels like you should give it the 200 hours that it truly deserves. Furthermore, the Enhanced Edition patch is free to all those who bought the original version that was plagued by all of the above. This time around, The Witcher is a must play and must have for all PC gamers who want a thrilling RPG adventure on their hands.
Overall: 8.25 out of 10

Cool, I’m going to pick this one up. I miss a good RPG.
Yeah this is a very solid RPG for the PC. I really need a new gaming rig
I built mine for Age of Conan. I was looking for other stuff to play on it. I would get Crysis, but I’m not really into FPS.
