Review: Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars (PS3)

First impression:  Fabulous
Second, and third, impression:  Perfect.

This $15 dollar “mini-game” is everything you could want in an inexpensive downloadable title.  The single player “mini-games” are fun, and the online play is very intriguing–I never wanted to stop playing.  For those of you who have yet to play this game, here’s the deal.  The online portion of the game plays like soccer.  However, rather than being a person, you are a supersonic acrobatic rocket-powered battle-car.  So basically you drive around trying to put the gigantic bouncy ball into the opponent’s goal whilst avoiding being destroyed by opponent supersonic battle-cars.

The single player mini-games are fun exercises, which you are rated based on 5 stars, to help you get better at controlling your car in the multiplayer portion of the game.  The single player begins with basic driving skills, power slides, jumping, and flipping, and moves into the more complex attributes, goal tending and scoring.  As you go further into the single player, you are able to unlock cool cars which you can then use online.

For a downloadable game, the graphics are great.  The 3rd person camera angles which follow the car as it flies through the air are amazing.  The camera doesn’t just simply stay behind the car but follow it flying through the air, spinning and flipping all over the place.  Another cool feature online is the slow motion instant replays after a goal is scored.  It’s not the usual boring instant replay that you’d get in a Madden type game because when the ball is scored, it explodes and sends the battle-cars flying around.
The online gameplay is great.  When I first joined a game it was 1 on 1, but as the game progressed more players joined and it became a 5 on 5 game.  The more players there are, the more ridiculous the game becomes–but by ridiculous I mean crazy entertaining.  Your battle-car is able to go supersonic with turbo you get from pills which are around the field.  Once in supersonic mode, if you hit an opponent, they shatter and get sent flying across the field.  If you play the game you wont want to stop because you’ll want to get better so you can smash your opponents–it’s very satisfying.

My recommendation, spend the 15 bucks on the game, it will bring you hours of enjoyment.

Overall: 9 out of 10
