EA’s MySims Media Day Coverage

This past Friday, I had the chance to head on out to EA’s Campus is Redwood City, CA to check out a virtual cornucopia of new Sims games. Last year marked the jump for the Sims onto the Wii and DS with MySims. This year, EA looks to expand on that franchise with some new games for Nintendo platforms and PC.

Before I get into it, I have to say the EA Campus is pretty amazing. It spans 23 acres and has everything you’d ever want whether at work or home. Between the insane cafes, Starbucks and Blockbuster shops, you get a huge gymnasium with multiple full basketball courts, a top of the line workout center, beach volleyball and basketball courts. There’s even on-site day care, dry cleaning, and dental service. Yep, you basically never have to leave (EA really wants people there).

On to what’s important: the games. The first thing I get a chance to see was MySims Kingdom for the Wii and DS. The game is a follow-up to last year’s MySims game, but don’t think of it as a sequel. It’s more of a story-driven continuation on the first game, but with a slew of technical upgrades. Next up was Sim Animals, a new title for both the Wii and DS that lets you play God over some woodland creatures. Yes, the animals can eat each other (that was one of the first things I asked, since I’m deviant like that). Third on the docket was SimCity Creator, again for the Wii and DS. A first in the SimCity series, you’ll be able to draw your own curvy roads. I decided writing curse words was best, but the development team said no one has tried that yet (I don’t believe that one bit). Finally, it was off to see MySims for the PC, which is a port of last year’s Wii title.

All in all, I was pretty impressed with what was shown for upcoming Sims titles. Some things didn’t really click, but you’ll have to wait it out to see my full impressions on each of the games in the next few days. See how I do that? Draw you in and then give you the “To Be Continued…” ending. Don’t ya love it? You won’t have to wait too long :)
