Xbox 360 Arcade Price Drop Official to $199.99

The off and on again price drop for the Xbox 360 is now fo’ real real. You can buy an Xbox 360 for under 200 bucks and thats a great thing.  Too bad you can’t download or save anything of consequence. The “normal” 360 will sell for $299.99 and the Elite for $399.99. I really don’t see what all the hubbub is about.  With the Arcade model, you still need to shell out another hundred bucks for a hard drive. By my math, that gives you a regular Xbox 360. Include some usuable storage space then call me with the big news.

I think they’re trying to combat the Wii with it. You can get a 360 Arcade with the same amount of storage as the Wii (512mb memory card included) for $50 cheaper. Too bad you don’t get the easy to use controller and motion sensing. Not going to make a dent in Wii sales. It will get a couple more people who wanted to buy the system pick one up, though.

The bigger thing, in my opinion, is now being $100 cheaper than the PS3 on the Pro SKU

I’m starting to think the Xbox 360’s day is starting to end.. The Wii is cornering the lower cost, casual, family/group market. The PS3 has been fixing up their online services (which is cheaper than live) and offers an active home entertainment media (bluray) as well as what is general considered greater processing power than the 360 which we have seen comments regarding the 360 being maxed out for graphics. And the ps3 has some limited motion ability with their controller…
    thinking i should actually buy a PS3 now….

with a bigger push to distributing DLC and charging for it the Arcade is pretty useless. Especially if you need to DL any updates or patches which has become more common. Or if you get the RRoD (which I hate with a fiery passion). Can’t freely abuse XBLA, DL movies or music. Also if to extend the consoles lifespan installs are required for games (such as with PS3) the Arcade won’t have much capacity for that…

This sounds more and more like a middle managers idea to increase profits and get recognition. A small stab at market share.
