Guitar Hero Kid Drops out of School

Guitar Hero Kid Drops out of School
All I can say is wow! His parents are letting him leave school in order to pursue an idiotic dream of being a pr-Guitar Hero player?! This definitely goes in the WTF file. He is being forced to be home schooled, but I mean come on, how can you allow your child to abandon getting a real education for playing GH for money?

Blake Peebles, 16, of Raleigh, dropped out of school last year to devote himself to playing ‘Guitar Hero,’ and his parents agreed to have him home-schooled. ‘I usually play till I can’t anymore,’ Blake says.

Blake has done well in local tournaments, including one held at a Chick-fil-A that earned him 52 combo meals. By his account, he has lost only once since “Guitar Hero III” was released late last year. Some of that time was spent playing online, against players from all over the world.

This is how he knows he’s good. It wasn’t that long ago that kids who excelled at some activity, say basketball, would only have to go to the next neighborhood to have their dreams crushed by some older, more accomplished player.

Today, on Xbox 360, players use the system’s online component to compare scores with players all over the world. Blake, who goes by the online name “Dreminem,” figures that he has top-10 scores on 20 or so of songs on “Guitar Hero III.”

I guess if you want to be a pro-gamer you got to practice a lot, but even though I am an avid gamer and would love to have pro-gamer children, there is no way in hell I would let them leave school. What if this kid gets a GH related injury that ends his career? then it is trips to the local avenue to service people with ZJ’s for a dollar. This just sounds like a bad South Park skit, too bad its real.

    when i read “including one held at a Chick-fil-A that earned him 52 combo meals.” i LOLed. I seriously love chik-fil-a and I envy his victory haha.

    about the school stuff, honestly, if he was attending public school, being home schooled is probably a step up if he has diligent parents or a teacher coming to the house. I had to be home schooled for my 9th grade year due to a crazy surgery and recovery I had that took 8 months. School was 3 hours a day, 3 days a week and I came back in 10th grade a good half year ahead of my class. Public school is 90% student-wrangling and nonsense, 10% learning.

    Top 10 in 20 or so songs? If he’s not top 3, then why does he want to be a pro?

    @IaN,

    Public school is 90% student-wrangling and nonsense, 10% learning.

    I disagree, it depends on what you do with your time. I was a scholar athlete and took advantage of school which made my 1st two years in college a breeze. And the 90% nonsense is important too, you learn about life and different types of people. Being home schooled shelters you from real life experiences, you need to develop social skills to interact with real life situations and personalities. There is life beyond your room, your video games and your mom’s cooking…

    BTW, this kid is quite wetarded for dropping out of school.

    @Nostars: LMAO @ “Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and fuck the prom queen.”
