Nintendo Press Conference… boring

Nintendo
I can sum up the Nintendo press conference in one word… BORING! Nothing was said that was even remotely close to interesting.

The conference opens up with Shaun White and his new snow boarding game, which is confirmed will use the balance board. Then Satoru Iwata babbles on and on about a paradigm shift in gaming and never makes it to a valid point. Iwata’s babble went on for about 10 minutes, which seemed like forever.

Nintendo gives E3 a new acronym: E3 is Engaged, Enriched and Enthused. Ok if you say so?

Animal Crossing gets confirmed for a 2008 release and probably one of the bigger announcements was the WiiSpeak ability. WiiSpeak is Nintendo’s answer to voice chat, but instead of having it be person to person this will focus on a group or party of players shouting at one another.

They show a bit of the new Rayman game, Call of Duty World at War and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, none of which are terribly impressive. Rayman will integrate the balance board, COD will have a cool flamethrower and Star Wars is a giant light saber fight.

Spore Creator is announced for the DS and will allow you to share your creatures via Wifi. A new Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades game is announced; my hand hurts just thinking about it. Lastly for the DS the new GTA Chinatown Wars is announced, this is the biggest highlight of the conference and they spent about 30 seconds on it.

Wii Sports Resort is announced with motion plus capabilities. This sequel to Wii Sports will have more games for families to play and they showcase three: Frisbee, Jet ski and Fencing. Frisbee is first shown off and you can see the Mii on screen mimic the users movements by use of the motion plus device, then you toss a Frisbee to a cute dog. Jet ski was debuted by Reggie and it looked straightforward, uses motion plus to control throttle by turning wrists. Fencing was also straight laced, stab each other to win. Overall a yawn fest.

Wii Music came next and it can be summed up as a big mess with instruments. No real scoring just “jamming” on invisible instruments, pretty sad really.

Everything is wrapped up by Reggie addressing the fact that the Wii is not a fad, which is laughable considering the horrible press conference they had and how it screams fad.

No word on HDD or any additional storage for the Wii. This press conference was one huge let down.

I have to admit I’m not really satisfied with the conference and Wii Music did look like a Jam Fest. Too bad GTA:CW isn’t for the Wii because I’m pretty satisfied with the games I have for my DS. Hopefully other developers can take advantage of the WiiSpeak and develope a ‘fresh’ online game. Animal Crossing Wii did it for me also.

Why no word on the sequel to FF:CC it’s been quiet for a while and Square did let off a surprise for MS, they could have gave news on that too..

This one calls for a *facepalm*

My bet is that Sony will steal the show, sorry but I think they will.

Nintendo has just announced that the Mario and Zelda teams are “both hard at work” on new titles.”

    Zelda. I feel better.
