Square Enix has no loyalties or faith in MS or Sony

FFXIII
If there were an award for giving a game manufacturer the cold shoulder, Square Enix would win hands down. Actually they would win a few times. Let me elaborate…

Square Enix first shunned Nintendo back in the 90’s when it decided to move over to the Sony Playstation format after having a long standing relationship with Nintendo and it’s many FF titles. Now it is switching sides again and jumping on the Microsoft bandwagon with the announcement of Final Fantasy XIII for the Xbox 360. But no sooner do they hug Microsoft with one arm than stab them in the back with the other by announcing that there will be no 360 version in Japan.

Seems that Square knows what the deal is in Japan and will not even waste their time trying to port over a Japanese version for the Xbox 360. So Square Enix will ride Sony in Japan and count on Microsoft in Norht America and Europe. Talk about having little to no faith in MS in the far east to not even try to make the game and even to some extent no faith in Sony to sell enough units aside from in Japan.

I read in a forum that someone had once called Square Enix the “Judas of video gaming”, I think this is pretty accurate all things considered.

    You are damn right!
It is even worse if you think about the financial disaster Squaresoft had after their movie Spirits Within. Sony kept them alive and now SE just betray them?
    Shame on you SE!
Also shame on you Sony for not ensuring this exclusivity with some ca$h like M$!

(Sorry for my bad english, it is not my mother tongue)

Square Enix would have been loyal to Kutaragi but the current mgmt at Sony is very different in terms of business culture (even if some were around back then as well).

Basically, Microsoft (as usual) knows that everyone has their price and buys their way into franchises. It makes no business sense to develop this game for the Xbox360 because 99% of Xbox360 owners don’t give a crap about FFX type games. Microsoft’s enormous cash reserves made it possible for them to make it worthwhile to Square Enix.

To sum up, this move isn’t for Square Enix to capitalize on the Xbox360’s existing install based but rather to help Xbox360 expand it’s appeal and broaden it’s install base.

    Mark,

If you should blame anyone, you should blame the greedy hands at Square Enix for taking the devils money, first from Sony and now from MS. Now there has been no proof that MS is paying Square Enix though and a good guess is SE just got a huge cut on the licensing cost.

I own an Xbox360 and I DO LOVE FF series!
why didnt i buy a PS3 ? because Xbox is giving me JRPG’s, even though they are not AAA titles, they are fun to play.
FF13 on Xbox is just a way to avoid spending 400E on another console…

At least FF versus XIII is still a PS3 exclusive and tbh it’s looking more badass than XIII.

And maybe, if the game is really good, i’ll buy the PS3 for it!
    But if… IF FF7 Remake is announced 2morow … i’ll buy the PS3 as soon as i can! :D

I think the reason square did it is to actually boost the sales of thier other 360 exclusive crap thier making, and using 13 as a selling point for the other ones, making it a-four-in-one-ace-in-the-hole because thier dirty communists…

Toe2Toe is dead-on, this is definitely a classic flip-flop by Square. Square made themselves mercenaries when they jumped the Nintendo ship to join an unholy alliance with Sony. Sony should’ve seen this one coming at some point down the road that some bigger copany would do the same.

While this is a shock, I am not angry that SE is also releasing FF13 on the 360. After all, many great 360 games are being ported to PS3 for all to enjoy which is good. However, I think that it should have been released on PS3 first and then the 360 later. The only thing I am annoyed about is that it is going to take so much longer for it to reach NA now that they have to work on getting a 360 version together at the same time.

Didn’t one developer a while back say it was easier to port a PS3 game to 360 than a 360 game to PS3? If that’s the case it shouldn’t take that long to port it.

Why do we gamers think abt exclusivity a company has the biggest aim to make money and when the teen age gamer will be at age after some year to earn money they will know the reality that exclusivity is second or even the last thought on devs mind they need to flourish and grow first and when we can do tricks for that these companies which have 1000ands of dependents also can.
Think Star ocean 4 and Infinite Undiscovery have now gone multiplatform which where exclusive earlier. I would say rather this is a very wise decision.
