Microsoft: Grow Up and Put Down the Wii

Aaron Greenberg

As we inch closer to E3, the shots keep a comin’ and MS has drawn what I guess we can call first blood. In short, they think the Wii is for little kids and as a gamer above the age of Miley Cyrus, you need to ditch it and get a real console. OK. Here is their not so discrete way of saying the Wii is a child’s plaything:

I think that there’s a difference in the type of customer that is buying the Wii. When you think about it, there’s a difference between trying to be the number one console with nine year old gamers, and being the console that offers the most experiences from 13 to 33.

You see they’re not buying games on it, right? They’re buying it, it’s like something they break out when people come over, and it’s maybe a fun thing, but it’s almost like the same people that buy a karaoke machine, you know? They’re not really buying it for games, they’re just buying it as a novelty.

The Wii continues to outsell every console out there and Xbox 360’s keep dying on us. True or not, this is a business that Nintendo somehow is winning by a shit ton.

As much as I hate Microsoft, I would have to agree with him. Everyone that I know that has a Wii only plays it when people are over. And they only play Wii Sports

Aaron Greenberg makes me think less of Microsoft. Seriously, this guy does nothing but shit all over everyone else. You don’t see everyone else doing this, only Greenberg. If Microsoft truly endorses this, it’s very sad.

@CJ - I actually know a lot of people who play a bunch of games on Wii and play fairly often.

I play SSBB from time to time and often playing my GC games on the Wii, so does that count? I don’t really have much games at the moment, but I’m actually looking forward to what the Wii is going to be offered this year and next year, even though the E3 lineup looks weak for the Wii. I hope the Conduit is the milestone where more developers start making hardcore games for the Wii, c’mon I always believed that the Wii is destined for FPS games with it’s controls.

Oh yeah funny thing, analysts are saying that the reason the PS3 is garnering so much sales is because its the 360 owners that are buying the PS3 because their have RRoD’d, tough luck. If this is partially true Sony can use that to bite MS in the ass about the ongoing problem with RRoD today.

Pretty funny stuff and although true for the most part, attacking the competition like that is a little tastleless, especially coming from MICROSOFT.

I’m in the same boat as CJ, only playing it when people come over.

The 360 is a great console and a good media center. The PS3 is a good console and a great media center. The Wii really doesn’t try to excel at anything.
