This is just very very annoying. While playing some Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Beta yesterday, my Xbox 360 went all RRoD on me. I made a sad face. I have the Best Buy warranty for a reason, but come on. I had such confidence in this one after Max’s marathon Halo 3 sessions.
I let the poor sick console sit overnight and tried to fire it up today, hoping it was just a fluke. Nope, she’s gone. Unfortunately, my Best Buy is out of Elites right now, so I have to wait until the end of the week when they hopefully get more in stock. You won’t be seeing me online for the next few days on Xbox Live. She was a Falcon, too. She’ll be sorely missed. To quote my article the last time a console died:
It’s not like I treat it like crap. It’s babied. My Xbox 360 has it’s own shelf in the entertainment center, with full ventilation from the front and rear. The power brick also sits on the shelf fully ventilated. The console is never moved when playing (in fact, it’s only moved a tiny bit once a week to dust). The console is kept perfectly clean, as are my other systems. I haven’t had any problems with my PS3 (save long install times) or my Wii. Never had problems with my PS2, Xbox, or Gamecube before that.
For the record, I’m tired of taking pictures of the Red Ring of Death when this happens. So you guys get to look an old RRoD from one of the Loot Ninja consoles.

You have serious issues. Ha.
Man that sucks R.I.P., wow number 9? “$990m Bill for Xbox Red Ring of Death”…
The funny part is I’m not even angry this time. I’m just disappointed.
Man, you seriously have zero luck with your 360’s.
Yeah, for some reason, it just hates me. Like I’ve said before, never had problems with other consoles. My launch 60GB PS3 is going strong and so is my launch Wii. Original Xbox, PS2, Gamecube are all good as well. 360 just hates me.
The only console ever to die on me was my first Dreamcast. I totally killed it with a 14 hour marathon of Phantasy Star Online. Yeah, it was also sitting on my rug.
Well leaving any electronic devices on a carpet running for 14 hours might not be a good idea. haha
My N64 died, but that was when I threw it out the window.. Other than that I never had any problems with any consoles and my PS2 is also going strong. I’m starting to play it even more with the will to finish these RPG games and patiently waiting for Persona 4 by December.
Why the bloody hell did you throw an N64 out the window? Did it refuse to take the memory expansion pack from you?
The cat has 9 lives, so this is it 4 u.
That blows dude…
I dont have an Xbox,
I wuz debating to get one way back but a buddy of mine kept returning his @ lunch time @ Best Buy, I think he wuz upto 3 or so I kinda learned my lesson from others mistakes, haha
You should should shoot it with an AK47 and put it on youtube.
1. Don’t own any guns.
2. I don’t think Best Buy would accept a bullet-ridden Xbox 360 as a return….
LOL @ N64 out the window. Return it and tell them that it was under warranty.
Damn dude that sux, do you have MS on speed dial by now? =)
Haha. Nope, I get them replaced at Best Buy. I’d rather not deal with waiting that long, especially since I paid for the replacement plan. Maybe I should call MS… wonder if they do anything for you when you have this many broken ones…
LOL, the N64 was awesome, I still play No Mercy from time to time.
Matt,
Have you ever had your power tested? Especially, the outlet that the console is connected to. You should think about testing it to see if you are getting the right voltage and current. If not, you stuff may be work but the “dirty” power can shorten the lifespan. It just seems weird that you have replaced eight — that is some substantially bad luck.
Also see if you kind find out what is on the same circuit (you can test this with breaker switches). Another possible thing you can do is plug your 360 through a power conditioner, which will try to correct any power problems. And generally they give a warning if they are not able to correct the power.
Dave – I just bought a new house and we re-did a lot of the electrical work here, so everything was tested and clean (I’m anal about that stuff). My Xbox 360 is used in both the living room and my office. In my living room, I also have a Monster Power Center that regulates the power going to all of my components. Both my entertainment center and my office are on their own individual brand new 20amp circuits.
Poor power was one of the first things I thought might be the problem, but since I haven’t had a single problem with anything else (TV, receiver, power center, PS3, Wii, cable box), I’m pretty much pegging the problem on the Xbox 360. And since I’m replacing them at Best Buy and not having refurbs sent from MS, I’m also getting new power bricks as well, so that can be ruled out.
I’ve gone through extensive testing of everything that might be causing problems from electrical, heat, and air flow and everything is good. I’m out of ideas and can only conclude it’s faulty hardware, especially given the fact that nothing else is failing.
@nostars – I was always more of a WCW-NWO Revenge fan. That was the epitome of wrestling games, in my opinion. It’s all been downhill ever since.
I threw out my N64 because it was the Pikachu version, it looked ugly, and it was like 2 years ago xD. With that being said the N64 was a great home console and I remember spending countless days playing No Mercy or Conker Bad Fur Day :s
Best of luck on getting a new 360 with your replacement plan Matt
@Matt I think the CAW in No Mercy gave more options for move combinations. Also, the entrance music was better. I had a 7′ tall buff dude named Viper, dressed in green and black spandex who gyrated to “Sexy Boy”.
