Looks like we have gotten some answers to our question if the trophies in the new firmware 2.40 would go through old save files and award achievements for previous titles, the answer is no. The system will not scan old save files and award trophies because people are a bunch of cheaters.
The decision to not award Trophies in this way is due to the relative ease of save game sharing on PlayStation 3…
Had Trophies been retrospective, save game files with everything unlocked could have been easily traded, making it easy for people to cheat the system.
So what does this mean for all of us, it means we need to break out games again and beat them in order to get trophies for Warhawk, Uncharted, GTA, etc.
This does put a dent in the armor of the new firmware and may hinder it’s success as I doubt many gamers will take out all of their old games and play through them again just for trophies. Would you? Happy gaming.

It kind of gives you a reason to play through those great titles again. I wonder how many people will run out to collect trophies as soon as they are available, just like hte achievement whores.
For me it depends on the game. If it’s a game I truly loved, like Uncharted and R&C, absolutely.
Yeah this is kinda a good and a bad thing for both sides. Plus if you have already beaten the game and it’s that good, then it must have replay value. And you have a sense of what to expect from the game so you’d beat it and unlock the achievements somewhat faster.
It’s a double-edged sword, because honestly some games are not really worth a second go through just for trophies. I consider Heavenly Sword to be one of those games.
Definitely, Heavenly sword was a hit or miss for certain PS3 owners, because it was early in the PS3 release and people either played it or gave it a pass. It’s a good game for sure, but I see some people show distaste for it.
Heavenly Sword was good for what it was, a short story/interactive movie. If they had done more with it, people would’ve loved it.
