Well this isn’t a total surprise to anyone that has picked up a virtual guitar in the last year or so, with the launch of many different types of Guitar Hero comes the official announcement of Rock Band 2. Harmonix announced Rock Band 2 is set to ship for the Xbox 360 this September and for the PS3 later in the year, interesting how the PS3 gets a quick shot in the junk and has to wait? Also with the announce comes news that our European gamer friends will be getting the game within the same month as the stateside launch of Rock Band 2.
Some more notes of interest regarding the new RB2 is the DLC for Rock Band and Rock Band 2:
We’ve been working hard with Microsoft and Sony to develop a way to share content between games, and we’re really happy that we’ll be the first game to support fully functional cross-title DLC.
As far as Harmonix is concerned, there’s no difference between “Rock Band 1 DLC” and “Rock Band 2 DLC” – we’re just releasing awesome songs every week onto the Rock Band platform, all of which are playable by the Rock Band titles that support DLC.
Also there is some foreshadowing of an online World Tour mode, but of course these are just whispers in the wind that can not be confirmed at this time, if it does not have this I doubt anyone will buy it.
I’m pretty sure John Drake (Harmonix PR Coordinator) will hit me if I confirm or deny anything, but I can say this: We’ve taken almost everything people have asked for in Rock Band and added it to Rock Band 2, as well as including some “first time ever” features. Our World Tour campaign mode is no exception to this.

I was just going to ask the same question Matt, did M$ pay them for the timed exclusivity? Heh. With music games being the current gen/casual kind of game to play for everybody no doubt RB2 will make a profit. I wonder if they”ll make the album downloads cheaper..
When will this fad be over. Im not investing anymore $$$
I have 2 much junk in my trunk, LOL
Although I love Rock Band, I don’t really see the point to a sequel. What is in this sequel that they couldn’t have done with a $30-40 DLC? New instruments? I have enough junk in my living room.
I htink their claim to fame on this one is the online tour and the dlc. other than that it will be the same.
I didn’t really see much from MTVgames developing a game, but as you can see they did a great job making Rock Band because it’s about music. Let’s hope they know they”ll have to compete with GH and it won’t be just guitars anymore.
My mistake MTVgames actually published the game not developed it.*
><
But they could’ve added the online multiplayer to a software update and just make the songs DLC.
