From the “No Shit?” files, Sony has come out and said that “There is a piracy problem on PSP.” Wow, you just figured that one out?
Custom firmware has been around for a very long time for the PSP allowing you to run homebrew, ISO loaders, and all kinds of crazy stuff. In terms of homebrew, this is pretty cool. But it also allows gamers to download ISO images of PSP games to load from their memory sticks. Bad news for game developers.
We know about it, we know how it’s done. It sometimes fuels the growth of hardware sales, but on balance we are not happy about it,” said [SCEE President David] Reeves, telling attendant developers that Sony will unveil new ways to combat piracy soon.
Not sure how exactly they’ll be clamping down on this. Some of the PSP hackers out there really know their stuff. It’ll be interesting to see how Sony combats this. The PSP has been steadily gaining momentum across the globe the past year, so cutting down on piracy for the huge games they’ve released in a good thing.

Write a Comment»I thought they’ve been fighting this by updating to a new firmware every time so a PSP is unable to downgrade, but weeks or months later hackers find their way to downgrade a PSP at a certain firmware. It’s nice to hear Sony will finally do something about this, I’m gonna go play some PS1 games on my PSP now…
I’ll go ahead and be devil’s advocate here. Sure you can use this custom firmware and run ISOs. But who makes money from the games? Sony only gets a small fraction of that. But you know where they make a lot of money? Off of selling memory stick duos. I’m just sayin’…
Lmfao nostars, that’s pretty true, plus a lot of people buy like the 2-4 GB ones since memory sticks are getting cheaper.
Well no sh!t Sergeant Obvious lol!
But seriously;I can see Sony investing a looooot of ca$h in ensuring the PsP 2 is harder to Crack.
