Nintendo: We Will Bring Core Gamers Back After E3 Showing

Wii Super Mario Galaxy

Many hardcore gamers have not been playing much attention to the Wii lately. Smash Bros was all the rave for about a week, then everyone shifted their eyes to MGS4 and GTA IV. Nintendo knows this, but believes what they will show us at E3 will make us turn our heads once again. Nintendo PR head Marc Franklin said:

Nintendo will be announcing several new titles that core gamers will be interested in around the time of E3. The clear majority of people waiting in line outside retailers on Sunday mornings to buy their Wii consoles are core gamers.

Look at the plans being made by third-party publishers. They realize that Wii is the current platform of choice in this generation, and their bottom lines depend on appealing to the largest base.

Nintendo has to offer some more non-Mario related games. Outside of tennis, soccer, kart racing, etc. , what else is there? Major third parties don’t develop Wii games because you can’t download anything. Here’s hoping this guy is has something up his sleeve. I might have to turn my Wii on to see if it still works.

I held faith in Nintendo when they shed light on the lack of third-party developers and has something big for us core gamers this E3. Conduit, COD5 (let’s hope COD5 isn’t going to be some watered down version like the DS was with COD4) and now a game from Nintendo for us hardcore gamers? My Wii is gonna stay and if this goes good the dust will be brushed off.

I’m not convinced by this. Specifically because Nintendo thinks “core” gamers are anyone who spends more than like 30 minutes playing games. By their standards, my wife is a core gamer because she plays Wii Fit and Wii Sports bowling. She won’t even touch Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, or anything on PS3 or 360. So hopefully this isn’t the core gamer type Nintendo will be targeting.

I think with all this bashing on Nintendo with casual gamers got to Nintendo and hopefully they do know what a core gamer is by now, but you do hold a valid point :)

People joke or maybe even want a Zelda mmo. Sounds like a good idea, but with Nintendo in charge it seems impossible.

We better not get a Kid Icarus or any game that a Brawl character was in i.e. Falco, Fox, Kirby, etc.. Nobody wants it ffs.
