That’s right, Steve Jobs just announced that the new 3G version of the iPhone will be hitting stores in July, July 11th to be exact. Looks like the new version of the iPhone will be a bit thicker and will definitely have 3G technology as well as capability to run 3rd party apps and games.
Apple claims its 3G speeds trounce the competition, with pageloads 36% faster than the N95 and Treo 750 — and of course it completely trounces the old EDGE data. Battery life isn’t getting put out to pasture though, with 300 hours of standby, 8-10 hours of 2G talk, 5 hours of 3G talk, 7 hours of video and 24 hours of audio. GPS is also a go. Apple is using A-GPS, which supplements regular satellite GPS data with info from cellular towers.
Not only is this version touting the new firmware 2.0 and all it’s goodies but also touting a lower price point. That’s right, all this and a bag of chips for $199. Also expect this version to launch everywhere at the same time; no more timed releases. Looks like Apple came through with a doozy at it’s WWDC, look for more info as it becomes available.
Apple hopes to launch in 70 countries this year. 8GB is available for $199, 16GB for $299 — and the 16GB comes in white. Apple will be hitting the 22 biggest markets, including the US, on July 11th. Pre-orders are available now at the Apple Store.
No mention of a contract just yet but I can almost guarantee a 2 year deal with AT&T, I am going to stop typing now and go reserve mine now, see ya!

i think this is brilliant. i never even considered the iphone due to the high price tag but now when im still lacking any sort of mp3 player an 8gb 200 dollar iphone is looking quite better then a 150 dollar 4 gig ipod nano, or the price of the new blackjack thats out that i would probably upgrade to in a couple weeks anyway
what chips do you get? lol..i wish i could get the iphone, but the phone is $200 and the monthly is what like $70? over a 2 year period that 70 is $1680 or some shit, so total its $1880..too much for me
