Ok so Sony wont exactly get achievements, but they are looking at instituting Trophies for PS3 games, most likely you will see these on the first party titles first.
According to our PS3forum industry insider, Sony will be releasing Firmware 2.4 sometime in June around the launch of Metal Gear Solid 4. Also mentioned is that the new Firmware 2.4 will include some of the first PlayStation Trophies. *Note that these will be the 2D trophies found on the XMB and not the 3D trophies coming in Home later this year.
A lot of gamers are looking forward to this feature as you can track what you have done in certain titles, I know for cross platform games the achievements on the Xbox 360 push them over the edge to get the MS version rather than the PS3 version. Couple this with HOME coming later this year and some in game XMB and the PSN is shaping up quite nicely, just hope it isn’t too late for Sony to come roaring back into the race.

My assumption is yes, this is still in the beta phase and will change again when Home is released as well.
lol, then I’ll pass. I’m not redoing what I have already done.
At least they are doing something besides another delay. They really dropped the ball with the home stuff and coming out saying we got distracted and weren’t focused on the gaming aspects of home. >.<; HOW that’s the main point of HOME. I think they are just obsessing over the perfect uber experience and milking the potential advertising revenue, when they should just be bringing something out and then grow it. Instead of just the eternally dangled carrot on the stick.
I wasn’t aware of this, I expected the “achievements” to come with Home, but I guess not. Home isn’t coming out ’till maybe early December/09? More beta testing for new users in November.
