Typically you can listen to Zero Punctuation and “Yahtzee” Croshaw to get a great laugh. This episode had me smiling all around and I enjoyed the topic of reviews until he began to speak about people only being able to afford one console, he states that this is what creates fanboys, which I guess makes some sense. He loses me at the very end of his video monologue when he refers to “being white enough to afford all of the consoles”, I have to say this comment really sat with me badly and shone an ugly light on an otherwise great episode.
I can only hope that Yahtzee had some kind of temporary lapse in judgement or his statement is not translating well, because to me this statement screams racist. We joke about a lot of things, but never racist remarks, to say that luckily he is “white enough to afford all of the consoles” is a slap in the face to any non-white person that plays video games or listens to his show.

When I first watched this earlier I actually stopped and replayed that section assuming I must have misheard him and thinking “he didn’t really just say that, did he?”. Very disappointing and inexcuseable.

Come on; his comment isn’t racist. It isn’t even really a joke about race. Really, the joke is about the perception “the rich yuppie culture” commonly associated with whites. At worst, if you want to view it as a racial joke at its core, then I would say its equivalent to a joke like “As a black man, obviously my dick’s huge.” Few people would argue that that joke is racist (in the charged-with-negative-undertones sense of the word), or that it is necessarily a negative put down to all other races; rather, the joke is playing on the belief in the black stereotype, just as Yatzhee’s joke plays on a white “yuppie” one.
I don’t think he’s racist he just had a slip up. It happens when you’re trying to be funny. Chalk it up to experience, apologize, and call it a day.

All I can say is that i am not being sensitive or need a tampo ya ass wipes, I was merely pointing out a fact, that this comment existed in this episode and that I as an individual do not agree with it. He is also pointedly barbed about those games which can be seen as pandering to the P.C. brigade – such as yourself – by including as many different races as possible as a means of trying desperately not to offend anyone…….Assassin’s Creed and it’s rainbow cavalcade of developers anyone?
