Anyone Else Call Shenanigans on Brett Favre Making the Cover of Madden?

Madden 09

Is it just me or does naming a retired player, Brett Favre, to the cover of your franchise game title a bit odd? Why change up the formula after all these years of getting current athletes on your cover? Is it perhaps because of the long standing Madden curse? Perhaps players who were asked to be on the cover told EA and Madden they would rather eat some razor blades than be on their cover?

I have to say that the thought has crossed my mind several times. Perhaps they are giving the Madden curse a year off and will try and kill the player to grace the cover for 2010. In any event, Madden is looking different now, not only on the cover but in gameplay and announcing. Maybe this year will have enough to make it a must buy?

lol, maybe none of the players wanted anything to do with it. But what if something happens to Favre anyway?

The Madden curse goes back years. Every year a famous football player gets put on the cover. And whoever gets on the cover either has terrible injuries that year, or a bad statistical year. This year, EA took the coward’s way out by putting a retired player on the cover. But if some freak accident were to happen to Favre, it would only serve to solidify the existence of a “curse”.

Why change up the formula? Prior to 1999 only Madden was on the cover.

IT’S A F#@KING TRIBUTE! Brett Favre is one of the most beloved NFL players of ALL TIME. He is also one of the most successful, and hardest working EVER…at ANY postion.

They broke tradition, because they wanted to honor a true hero to “the game”. Perhaps it didn’t occur to this Al Zamora dork, that EA didn’t PUT players on the cover, back when Favre was in his early years. John Madden HIMSELF insisted on the being the coverboy, until 2001…WELL into Favre’s career.

But who wants to see Madden’s ugly mug on the cover?
I like that they finally put Favre on the cover, but they should’ve done it when he was an active player.
