Sony and Rockstar today released a patch (v1.01) for Grand Theft Auto IV on the PS3. The update supposedly fixes all those pesky freezing issues that have been plaguing gamers the past week or so.
Along with the freezing fix, the update smooths out online play and also stops the PS3 from rebooting when you hit the PS button and choose Quit Game.
I’ve personally only had the game freeze on my once, so I can’t really say for sure if the freezing issue has been fixed. Online play seems fine as well (again, I didn’t have any issues). Go fire up your PS3 and GTA4 and grab the 18mb patch. Come back and let us know if this fixes your freezing issues.
No word on when a patch will be available for the freezes gamers are experiencing on the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Taken from GAF:
“This patch does not fix the freezing issue that happens to people who crash in the intro. This patch only fixes networking issues and will only apply to those who had to sign out of PSN in order to prevent the game from crashing. No 360 patch so far.”
“Again, this does not fix all crashing issues on the PS3 and some people are still stuck with coasters without the ability to even play for the first time.”
Take2 President today said the game is 100% Glitch free. Apparently the fucking money has already gone to his head. I would personally enjoy kicking him in said forehead.
Mine never froze at all, so I hope the patch doesn’t have an opposite effect.
I’m worrying about that nostars… I had a few stutters last night during play, which I never had. Also saw a lot of pop-in, which I also never saw
Does anyone have specifics on what exactly the patch does? Does it turn some settings on and others off?
No glitches huh? What about that video with the guy swimming in mid-air during online? Does that count?!
