Take-Two Suggests Fix for GTA IV Freezing on PS3

Want to fix the freezing issues that are plaguing the PS3 version of GTA IV? Sorry Xbox 360 owners, no fix for you yet. And I don’t know how much I’d call this a fix. Here’s the 12 step process, courtesy of Gamespot:

  1. Delete the game’s install data
  2. Delete the game’s save files
  3. Disable your Internet connectivity for the PS3
  4. Disable the console’s information board
  5. Disable Media Server functionality
  6. Delete all of the system’s Internet cache
  7. Turn off the PS3 screen saver
  8. Once this has been done, manually restart you PS3 by holding down the power button for 5 seconds it will beep once and then shut down. Release the power button and re-press it and hold for about 5 seconds. The system will then boot and reset all display settings. You will be prompted to reset your display settings to how you require them
  9. Once restarted please try the game again, you will be prompted to reinstall.
  10. Turn off the game’s auto-save. Press Start, Game, and locate the Auto-save option. Turn this off.
  11. Turn off the game’s flicker filter. Press Start, Display and locate the Flicker Filter option. Turn this off.
  12. Turn off the controller vibration feature. Press Start, Controls and locate the vibration option. Turn this off.

So let me get this straight, after I basically disable everything on the PS3, I have to kill auto saves and rumble? Yeah, this is ridiculous. I wouldn’t call this a “fix”. Rockstar needs to get on their ass and get this fixed ASAP.

lol, this is about as good a fix as borrowing your friend’s car until your car fixes itself.

I say that we get ready to file a class action lawsuit against Rockstar.

I’m not with the lawsuit crowd, but this is ridiculous.

“so what we want you to do is basically turn everything off. That’s right folks, turn all of the stuff that’s going to help you enjoy the game to it’s full potential off. We know we put it on there for a reason, but only 67% of you deserve to play that way.”

So anyhow, if I were to turn all of this off, I would be playing the game on a ps2…oh wait, no, then I could have rumble. But in essence, that’s what they are saying. Looks like they should have just stuck with that, and made a ps2 version. At least then I could have played it.

wow…u are serious, lol. I dunno if it will help anything. What exactly is it you are asking for? It’s been only a week, and they have said they are working on it. Seriously though, what are the damages you are going to seek? All I can think of is to ask them to fix the game…that’s all. I am starting to think it’s the systems though, and not the game in particular, and if that is the case there are no footholds. Sony has made so many modifications to the machine already that it may just be there is not enough memory allocated to run the game on the first consoles. That would be like suing someone for your pc not running Crysis even though you just bought a brand new rig just to play it. More power to you though, I still haven’t gotten to play it. Hopefully that all works out for ya in the end.

To be honest, I could care less what I get. This is partly out of a desire to see them hurt, no matter how miniscule, and partly a way to show that people aren’t willing to just bend over and take it. We have no idea what they’re doing. They could just be wait for the whole thing to die down, with no intention of really finding or fixing the problem. You’d think if they were really doing something they’d keep us updated. Yet all I’ve heard from them is “We’re sorry, we’re working on it.” And that was a few days ago.
