Have our greatest fears come true with the launch of the newest behemoth title? GTA IV locking up on both systems! O no’s! Many of us were afraid something unthinkable like this may happen especially after all of the issues that Bully had on the Xbox 360, but we were sure Rockstar had their shiet together for the launch of GTA IV. Right now this is not confirmed but a huge rumor flying around the internet, perhaps it’s all a cruel joke created to slander the good name of Rockstar or perhaps it is Armageddon as we know it. We will keep you posted on this one folks.

yeah, i spent 36 hours straight playing htis game and i went blind, shame on GTA
Sue rockstar for ruining your vision, your job, and your social life with GTA IV.
I just started the game up on my 360 and the disc read error has come up three times, forcing me to restart the xbox and it completely froze twice. This is all within a half hour of buying the game
@ Hunter - ouch, I had heard that this was prodamently on the PS3.
If you have pictures or a video send it on over and we will put it up.
PS3fanboy.com is reporting widespread issues but it seems like there’s a pretty easy work around (re-installing) for one - the online doesn’t seem to be working at all on PS3 according to their article though. I picked up the game this morning for 360 but won’t be able to try it until tonight (keeps fingers crossed).
Im crossing my fingers as well, 360 dont fail me now.
Curious if Hunter has some pictures to show us what he is experiencing, it would be bad news if the bugs were in both sytsems.
GTA 4 got crabs! lol
I’ll post some pictures as soon as i can find my camera.
well it just completely froze again. The picture just stops and the motor sound (or whatever sound you happen to be hearing at the moment) gets stuck and keeps playing. This is one of the two issues, the other being the dashboard thing pops up from the right side of the screen and says that the disc cannot be read, “take the disc out and polish it with a soft cloth, restart the console”. I got a video of the freezing but now cant find a chord to upload it (stupid digi camera stuff) so this is the best description i could do. Good luck with your game. I think I’m going to return mine and get a different disc, we’ll see how that plays out.
@Al Zamora - I know Hunter from school and what he is saying is legit. Today in school I’m sitting there and I get a text from him flipping out because GTA is freezing on his system
I told him to try to clear his cache (meh MAY help) and if not he’s going to have to bring it back to gamestop. Woo…
Yea I got that same error in Forza when I picked it up. You just bring it into gamestop and they give you a new copy, it takes around 5 minutes.
Keep in mind this is no forza 2, this is GT IV, Mr. Can we see some ID game of the Year
Oh man now you’re here Game Hard. I swear man I get ID’ed everywhere I go to buy a game. Even though I look like 2 years older than you and hunter. God damn.
And I thought you were a loot ninja know it all, look at the more recent posts on the main forum page of one of the editors experience when buying the game…n00b
Yea I looked at that. I don’t know why that is. I swear everyone but my gets away without an ID. I’ve been asked every single time I go. Bestbuy even has those pop ups when they scan an M game that like say in caps… OVER 18? (Y/N). Lol I’m just saying that I get ID’ed. Pretty crazy that a 4 foot kid got COD4.
I can confirm this. Within the first 5 hours of play on the 360:
* At least one hard system lockup (required pressing power button)
* One black loading screen that never loaded (waited over 5 minutes) required power off
* Twice, tried pressing the Y button to become a passenger. The door wouldn’t open. Re-situated and then tried again only to jack the car.
* The game spontaneously went into online mode and then back out of it on its own (I even heard someone’s voice over the speakers)
* Generally sluggish behavior (pressing buttons doesn’t always register)
So, yes, GTA 4 is buggy. Let’s hope they can push some updates from Xbox live.
This only strengthens my assertions that developers don’t put nearly enough effort into QA/QC.
I got past the intro movie and played for a while without incident. However, I had a lock-up when I finished the multiplayer training section which required a hard reboot. Like Brian said, I hope we see some patches (oops, I mean updates) for this game as it’s looking like it is somewhat buggy.
LOL, as long as the patches aren’t 2K style patches, which ruined games for me. (mlb 2K7 worked perfect prior to patch, post patch the game would lock up in the 6th inning)
