Gamestop and GTA IV - The ID Debacle

Gamestop

As if Gamestop doesn’t do enough things to look stupid… I was picking up my copy of GTA IV Special Edition this morning for PS3 at my local Gamestop. Another guy was there buying the game off the shelf. Both of us got ID’d to buy the game. I look nowhere near 17, but whatever. The guy next to me asks “Are you kidding?” The follow up reply from the old guy behind the counter waiting on me was “We’re not taking any chances with this game.”

Ok, you might say. As soon as the other guy leaves, a kid walks up to the counter to buy a used copy of Call of Duty 4. The kid was no more than 4 feet tall and couldn’t have been older than 13 or 14. Did he get ID’d? Nope. When I asked the guy behind the counter why not, I was told “We’re only worried about GTA.”

Wow. So let me get this straight. Gamestop doesn’t care about the ESRB “M” rating and will sell these games to minors as long as it’s not GTA? What kind of bull is that? I shook my head, took my copy of the game and went home. Still baffled over this one. It’s this kind of crap that fuels people like Chuckles.

Quit giving them business like the rest of us who are fed up with their bullshit. I actually applied for a job there once and this guy never called me back. This being the same douchebag who tried to convince me the 360 doesn’t have hardware issues. Despite me giving him the technical explanation and telling him it’s all over the net. conclusion: fuck gamestop.

Apparently the small letters in the lower right hand corner of video games are just for show, its the title itself that that you need to worry about. LOL

Yeah thats pretty dumb that he wouldn’t ID the kid even if he wasn’t buying GTA. My local gamestop always cards everyone even if you don’t look under the age they still card you. I’ve seen countless kids get turned trying to buy something like RSV and then get all pissed about it and have to come back with there parent.
If your someone who preorders a lot they actually won’t need to card you anymore since all your info is already stored in there system. Thats what they did at my local gamespot since I usually preorder all my games from them.

I know they do some awfly dumb stuff at Gamestop sometimes but this story screams of B.S.

Let me get this straight, a kid of middle school age skips school to go to a videogame store, the morning of GTA IV release, expecting not to get carded……….. and buys COD 4?

    riiggghhhtttt……

As a current employee of gamestop I know that employee should not have done that. In no way are we only worried about one game. The policy I have always been told is if they don’t look to be 40 your better off asking for ID.

the one thing I hate about GAmeStop is that its full of XBOTS employees. Always trying to convince you to get an XBOx360, its fuking annoying.

@cell, I know how you feel, I’m the only person that actually owns and plays their PS3 out of our whole store. Sucks!
