I recently wrote an editorial and was pretty much attacked for my thoughts on the Lack of Nudity in video games, seems like even a mention of nudity brings people into a tizzy. The attacks ranged from some valid points to just utter ramblings that I was a pervert. Although I like nudity that does not make me a pervert and anyone else who does.Even Kotaku decided to take some shots at us, which I think is great actually, but at least use the entire article. I think I was taken a bit out of context and yes I used hyperbole and jest to make a serious topic a bit fun to read. This topic is a great one and I would love to discuss it in more depth without joking with anyone. Having an AO rating and not using and limiting video games because developers are afraid of getting their merchandise banned from shelves is unacceptable.
The fact is that video games currently do not employ nudity as part of the medium because they do not want to deal with the outrage of parents and conservatives alike. A lot of comments came in both through our site and some others discussing the overall topic, many agreed that having more nudity in would be fine and applauded as long as it fit into the story line of the game. Then there was the other side that blasted the idea and said that putting any nudity into a game would automatically make it into porn!?
I do not see the connection with nudity and porn? Porn would be a large step for a video game to get into, but to show some normal nudity wouldn’t. Yes my original example was of putting female breasts into a video game and I joked around by putting them hypothetically into Rainbow Six Vegas, this was just in jest. Fact is that any nudity will be frowned upon, male, female and even alien!
Here is a sample of nudity from Mass Effect. There is an actual scene of the main character making love to a blue alien woman, this was all over the news as indecent and perverted. Take a look at the clip and judge for yourself, there is nothing there except some faded out butt shot. This is what people are getting angry about? Why couldn’t the developer put in an actual love scene with perhaps nudity if they wanted to? Fear, thats why.
This scene in Mass Effect is tame by todays movie standards. This would be a PG13 movie at worst, but because it is in a video game it is labeled as indecent. Mass Effect was villafied by the media because of this simple scene that most players did not even know existed until it was plastered on the web.
Many have complained about the article and said that it is juvenile to request nudity in games. Yet many comments on this one and other sites call for more “tits” in games?! I agree I focused on the female form, which is normal as I am a heterosexual gamer but I agree the real issue is adding nudity in general terms and our point was not to alienate anyone.
Why should video games fear AO ratings? Why should they be reduced to ridiculous mini games in God of War? Why do we limit our devs?
The point of having the nudity in would be to enhance the experience and talking about it does not make someone a pervert. If you think so then you are way repressed in how you think. And for those of you that equate nudity with porn, which is a huge stretch in my opinion. Here is a little video to give you an idea of what the internet is really for?

@ mister needles - very random but well appreciated!!
@ Mr. Needles for his comments & Mr. Zamora for his support,
I have been a huge supporter till now…smart comments are stimulating…retarded comments are a waste of brain cells.
I like a good debate when I see one and that is why I participated in this one but your last comment has nothing to do with the topic, its freaking retarded…whats the point?
What does your silly dream have to do with nudity being allowed in video gaming?
In need of sharing retarded dreams, create a post in the forum, maybe you’ll even win a prize….good luck!
I mearly wanted to point out that watching desperate housewives last night and reading this made me have one kickass dream. And now my reply has ultimately destroyed your comment’s purpose since this now counts as a discussion. Also, I do post on the forum, constantly, and am known as the pimp daddy. lol.
P.S., If we all share our horny dreams we will have porn in video games!!!
I totally agree with the author.
And what ? If it shows breasts, it’s considered porn ? What are you, 10 ?
LOL !
I, personally, am sick of seeing the female body thrown on display.
Let’s see some nude males.
And do not argue that “Penis is not the same as boobs”!
We always compare breast sizes, males compare the size of their genitals.
I rarely here girls speaking of the sizes of their vaginas.
It’s because it is the breasts and penises that matter, right?
I agree that breasts matter, but i am not sure that any males are wlaking around having meauring contests of their junk. That is a mis-conception that men compare penis sizes.
In regards to females, there are two sizes that matter, are they a mouthful or handful. LOL
I think breasts are beautiful and a nice cleavage is hot, but some nipples are just plain ugly…
As a female, I wouldnt mind seeing see some nude male bodies with tight butts. In regards to penises, no thank you!
It is awful that people constantly judge the size of each other’s “junk”.
We all have different preferences, and thanks to today’s society, many people are self conscious due to the fact that they think that they don’t meet the standards. I personally dislike being judge for the size of my breasts, and I hate it when another females comment, “why are yours bigger than mine?”, and I am sure males feel the same about their parts.
I disagree with more nudity in video games.
We have enough already, and we don’t need to ruin a perfectly good game by added more nudity with males and females who have…greatly accentuated parts.
