Anyone who wished to make a fan site that contains anything Nintendo may want to reconsider. Nintendo of America has been sending emails to site admins everywhere if their site has copyrighted material. This material could be logos, content, or basically anything they have taken without consent. A huge site has been friendcodes. This site would help gamers find and store each other’s Wii friend codes just by signing up. It was a community site and nothing more. NOA sees it as a legal issue and is having the site shut down. Here are some words from the sites admin:
As some of you have noticed, FC has gone down several times recently. You were told that it was due to the site being backed up. This was also what the admins THOUGHT was the cause. However, it was due to something completely different. It turns out that Corey had received several emails from NOA (Nintendo of America). In short, the email asked that we close down friendcodes.com due to copyright infringement, because Nintendo owns the phrases: friendcode, friendcodes, friend code, and friend codes.
I do understand where Nintendo is coming from here, but does this info sharing site actually pose a threat to anyone? No. It actually helps promote the Wii and their lackluster Online community. We all hope here that the site can be allowed to remain with maybe a different domain name and some choice picture.

That was just a joke. It’s on the FC site.
It seems that Nintendo actually supports these fansites.
So basically they failed at April Fool’s?
April Fools day is the worst day for the internet.
Lol. Yeah if you wanna know more about it, goto the site. They never really wanted this thing to be put on digg or any other site. Members even emailed nintendo about this which the admins never really wanted.
Heh, Yeah it was all a joke. that went a bit out of control. We never expected to make it on Digg and all that. I only learned it was a joke late into the day.
suntro can you explain to me why the site is down?
Suntro… I’ve heard of you from somewhere…
The site is back online now btw.
ROFL well looks like nintendo sucks at pulling pranks…
Nintendo didn’t pull this prank. Friendcodes admins tried to do this and it was gonna be a pretty good prank too if the more dedicated members didn’t believe it and didn’t make this go out of control.
If Nintendo would’ve waited two days, it might’ve been funny.
This is not Nintendo’s prank >.> It’s the FC admins.
Either way, two days wait would’ve made it funny.
oh ok then cuz i thought it was serious hehe………..
